Sewing Club Entertained At Mrs Berckenhoff Home

A Wednesday afternoon gathering of the Sewing Club from 3 to 6 featured games and Victrola music at the home of Mrs A J Berckenhoff. Zinnias brightened the sun parlor and guests enjoyed a salad course cake and iced tea in the dining room. Attending were Mesdames Hornschuh Emms Koether C B Welh haus en and Hugh Koether plus the club members.

Better Yards Contest proposed for Shiner civic beauty drive

Flower Garden Contest Since Shiner has plenty of water why not inaugurate a Better Yards Contest. Nothing brings more pleasant returns than grassy lawns beds of flowers and attractive sidewalk borders. The most humble abode can be made appealing by beds of flowering shrubs. Barren grounds will spoil the appearance of handsome homes. Surely we can afford a modest investment in civic beauty and add more charm to our already beautiful city. Flowers are the best gloom chasers.

500 Club Hosts Friendly July Gathering at Herder Home

The 500 Club met last Thursday at Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Herder’s spacious home. Members showcased a car themed progression by table with a Ford at the head, miniature truck tallies, and Toy racers as favors. Refreshments included iced tea and angel food cake as the afternoon flowed from 3 to 6.

A barbecue at Dreyer Lutheran Church is set for next Sunday July 19. Admission is 85 cents with 15 cents for refreshments on the grounds. Dinner is served at 5 p m. Proceeds benefit the church. Everyone is invited.
