A Wednesday afternoon gathering of the Sewing Club from 3 to 6 featured games and Victrola music at the home of Mrs A J Berckenhoff. Zinnias brightened the sun parlor and guests enjoyed a salad course cake and iced tea in the dining room. Attending were Mesdames Hornschuh Emms Koether C B Welh haus en and Hugh Koether plus the club members.
Flower Garden Contest Since Shiner has plenty of water why not inaugurate a Better Yards Contest. Nothing brings more pleasant returns than grassy lawns beds of flowers and attractive sidewalk borders. The most humble abode can be made appealing by beds of flowering shrubs. Barren grounds will spoil the appearance of handsome homes. Surely we can afford a modest investment in civic beauty and add more charm to our already beautiful city. Flowers are the best gloom chasers.
Mrs Lera Ruppert and her daughter, residents of Brembam, are guests at the Louis Wagener home.
The 500 Club met last Thursday at Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Herder’s spacious home. Members showcased a car themed progression by table with a Ford at the head, miniature truck tallies, and Toy racers as favors. Refreshments included iced tea and angel food cake as the afternoon flowed from 3 to 6.
A barbecue at Dreyer Lutheran Church is set for next Sunday July 19. Admission is 85 cents with 15 cents for refreshments on the grounds. Dinner is served at 5 p m. Proceeds benefit the church. Everyone is invited.
The Ladies Aid Society of the Methodist Church will meet Wednesday July 22 at 3 30 p m at the home of Mrs J J Macha.
Services will be held at 11 a m Sunday morning and 8 15 p m Sunday evening led by Rev. Jos Green pastor. Everyone invited to attend these services.
Mr and Mrs Ed Niemann of Corpus Christi traveled to Moulton for the death of their kinsman Albert Kaase and spent time in Shiner this week.
Hallettsville went to Shiner and was blanked 13 to 0 marking the second loss of the season for Hallettsville in as many games. Batteries: Hallettsville Breeden E Greer Bennett. Shiner Turek Kasper. Hallettsville New Era reports the lopsided result and quips the contest resembled a race track.
Miss Young kin and Miss Francis Ross left here in a Ford for a pleasure trip and expect to be gone most of the summer, notes from Yoakum Times dated Thursday July 9th.
Senator Gus Russek visited Schulenburg on Wednesday and discussed a grand free barbecue to honor the Navidad river bridge completion on the Hal lettsville Schulenburg highway. Tax Collector Schornéck supported the idea, aiming to mobilize Lavaca and Fayette counties. Russek favors the proposal and pledged to help rally Fayette county, anticipating broad local participation.
J. W. Ragsdale of San Antonio met Tuesday to map defense for Louis Sobotik charged with the murder of John Deborah. The case will be called at the district court's October term.
J. F. Bozka and Alfred Turk, second lieutenants in the army reserve corps, expect to depart July 19 for Ft. Crockett Galveston to enter a 15 day military training camp, per Hallettsaville New Era.

A guest list shows a gathering of local names.
Farmers on Route 2 report good cotton and fair corn crops after a Saturday visit to the editor. They pledged a roasted ears treat in about ten days, signaling a seasonal harvest milestone for the community.

Mr W M Koch hosted son in law Emil Schneider and family at Victoria when illness struck. Schneider was rushed to Victoria Hospital for emergency care on a mumble line ride home as another wagoner delivered third bale of cotton.
