Barbers Switch to Cash Payments in 1920

Ladies Rest Room Opens in Tele phone Building

The Ladies Rest Room is now open to the public in the Tele phone building. A Rest Room committee is appointed with Mrs S A Thulemeyer as chair and Mrs Ele Wolters as secretary and treasurer. The Red Cross of Shiner will manage upkeep for six months and serve as headquarters for the County Public Health Nurse. Local organizations have given donations and further gifts are welcomed.

Permanent Office Planned For Ginners' Association

A. C. Kristek of Flatonia, president of the Yoakum Association of Ginners, calls a July 14 convention in Yoakum to establish permanent headquarters and hire an active secretary. The group will henceforth be known as the South Texas Ginners' Association.

Merrem Wins Debate Honors At State University

Leslie Crane Merrem son of Mr and Mrs E J Merrem received two top honors in public speaking at the State University He represented Rusk Society in the annual debate winning for Rusk which took the loving cup for the fourth straight year He also won first prize in the cash speaker awards Merrem holds an AB degree from Southwestern University at Georgetown He left the Mesquite school to join military service at the outbreak of World War I serving in the first training camp commission and in active duty during the war.

Twentieth Century Club Plans Carnival Booth and Rest Room Gift

The Twentieth Century Club held a brief meeting led by Mrs. C. C. Amsler to approve a booth at the Civic Club Carnival on July 22 and donate to the City Rest Room. Fourteen members and guests enjoyed several games of hearts and refreshments.

Aged Cuero Couple Travel Through City Returning Home

C L Schaefer aged 87 and his wife 81 visited Cuero on their way home from Shiner. The couple recently moved from Meyersville after 68 years of marriage and have been wed 69 years.
