After a lingering illness of several weeks, Mrs Theresia Effenberger of our city died on January 7. Born August 31, 1855, age 66 years, 7 months and 7 days. She came to America in 1875, lived on a farm near Shiner, moved to Shiner in 1911, has two sons and five daughters, all grown. The children are Frank and Leo Effenberger, Mrs Chas Kasper, Mrs Emil Ullmann, Mrs Adolph Ullmann, Mrs Frank Glomb and Mrs Wm Koether.

Shiner Couple Wed After License Granted
Dr August Darilek of Shiner and Miss Lillie Valenta of Shiner obtained a marriage license in Hallettsville. The ceremony was held at the Rectory with Father Wolf officiating. Guests included the bride's mother and brother. A supper followed at Mrs C Valenta's home. The couple then traveled to the groom's parents near Flatonia and on to Houston and other points. The Shiner Gazette congratulates the newlyweds and wishes them lasting happiness.

Waco Texas January 19 The grand jury indicted Sheriff Bob Buchanan in connection with the killing of Louis Crow at Lorena on October 1 Crow was stabbed during an attempt to stop a Ku Klux parade and died four days later.

Young Lady Shot Dies After Accidental Gun Discharge Near Edinburg
Miss Henrietta Klossner, daughter of Henry Klossner and member of a pioneer family, died from a gunshot wound when a shotgun discharged accidentally near Ream City four miles northwest of Edinburg. She sat in the rear seat with Mrs. J M Jetton and Miss Katherine Jetton. Scotty and Lois Jetton were in front. Jack Ross, guiding the party, stumbled from seventy five feet away and the gun fired, striking Klossner in the temple. She never regained consciousness. Katherine Jetton drove the car to the Klossner home, and she died late in the afternoon.

Mrs Ruth Josephine Schwab Passes Away in Yoakam
The Yoakam Times reports the death of Mrs Ruth Josephine Schwab wife of C Delane Schwab in the local hospital Tuesday at 8 15 am after a serious operation. She was 24 turning 25 and survived by her husband her parents Mr and Mrs T J Burkett three sisters Edna Pauline Dorothy and two brothers Earl and Tom Burkett. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist church this afternoon at 2 o clock with interment in Shiner at the Knights of Pythias cemetery Rev Seabough officiating. The Times offers sympathy to the bereaved.

Daring Train Hold Up In Mexico
One man was killed and fifteen hundred pesos stolen in a daring holdup of a train between Santa Rosalia and Chihuahua. Mexican bandits ambushed the train on Tuesday. Federal troops were sent in pursuit. The express messenger was killed while attempting to defend the company’s money. The bandits fled after hopping from the train.

Pope Benedict XV died at 6 o'clock Sunday morning in Rome. The end had been expected for hours as physicians Cardinal Gasparri and other household members were at the bedside. Dr Battistini had announced at 2 A.M. that the pope could not live longer than four hours.
