Gonzales Texas January 24 On a charge of assault with intent to commit criminal assault upon a 17 year old girl Father A A Huebsch was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to two years. Five more charges remain with one set for January 31. The case began last year with the jury report listing Cheapside residents among others and the defense was led by local attorneys while District Attorney H Duncan was assisted by W T Bagby.

Cuero Texas January 25 Rev A L Scarborough presiding elder of the Cuero district in the Methodist Episcopal Church died suddenly at his home this morning from heart trouble after recent illness. He arose as usual and kindled the fires before becoming ill. a physician was summoned but he passed about thirty minutes later.

Attempt to Rob Sweet Home Bank in Yoakum
About 4 o'clock this morning an attempt to rob the Valenta Bros. Bank at Sweet Home was made. The vault combination was broken with tools stolen from a blacksmith shop. Explosives were used but failed. The robbers, failing to blow the safe, took about $50 and two pistols from the store housing the bank.
