VFW Commander-In-Chief to Attend Austin Round-Up

National Commander Richard W. Homan of Sugar Grove West Virginia and Julian Dickenson Adjutant General of Kansas City head a list of dignitaries at the Mid-Winter Round-Up hosted by Travis County Council and Pilot Knob Post 8925 at the Stephen F. Austin Hotel Austin. Activities start Friday with registration social hour a western dance follows and Saturday night banquet features Commander Homan who recently toured Vietnam and the Far East memorial services Sunday morning conclude the event.

Mrs Helen Herro Laid To Rest In Corpus Christi

Last rites for Mrs Garth D Herro Sr 29 years 3 months 26 days former Helen Bernice Petry were held in Corpus Christi January 11. She died in a one car accident January 9 1969 at 12 24 a.m. Interment was Seaside Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were her brother Charles Petry friends Ted Bullard Frank Neff Leon Carr Sam Herro and an uncle Elo Berger. She was born September 13 1939 in Shiner Texas and married Garth D Herro June 1 1957. Surviving are husband two daughters Oraha Deniece Donna Dee a son Garth D Herro Jr her parents and two sisters and two brothers.

Dietrich August Mueller known as Dick Mueller died at 5 15 am Tuesday January 14 1969 after a hip fracture and complications. He was 80 born August 9 1888 in Lavaca County Texas with roots in Germany. Funeral services were at United Dr Martin Luther Church Shiner with burial in Shiner City Cemetery. He is survived by two sons two daughters a brother and a sister and 11 grandchildren.

Mrs. Joe Smolka of Route 2 Yoakum died at Huth Memorial Hospital Yoakum at 5 00 p m Thursday January 16 1969 age 78 years 3 months 16 days Funeral services were at Buffington Funeral Home and St Josephs Catholic Church Yoakum with a Requiem Mass at 3 00 p m Saturday January 18 1969 Burial in St Josephs Cemetery Yoakum Surviving are her husband Joe Smolka two sisters Mrs John V Orsak and Mrs Louis Cmakal both of Yoakum and one half brother Joe J Eicher of Rosenberg. She was born September 30 1890 at Moravia Lavaca County Texas and married on August 18 1925 in Yoakum.

TLC Concert Band Tour Targets South Texas Stops

Texas Lutheran College Concert Band schedules a 1500 mile January 26 February 2 tour across South Texas led by M A Nyquist with Roy Norton assisting. Social Security Agent to Visit Shiner January 27

A Social Security Office representative from Victoria will be at Shiner City Hall at 9 AM on Monday January 27 1969 to assist with retirement survivor disability and medicare claims and answer questions about the program. The notice adds that Medicare costs rose in 1969 due to hospital cost increases.

Funeral Services Held Monday For Mrs Henry Goetz

Mrs Anna Meyer Goetz died January 17 1969 at Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital aged 87 7 12. Funeral at 2 pm January 20 at United Dr Martin Luther Church with Rev F E Eilers officiating. She married Henry Goetz in 1901 and lived near Shiner before moving to Yoakum. Surviving son Henry Heine Goetz two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
