Mrs Ed Hagens dies at 4 30 pm on Wednesday January 15 after long illness. Funeral held at home Friday 10 am with Rev Ed win Oehlke. Burial at City Cemetery with casket attendants Otto Heerssen Henry Goetz Jr Elo Wolters Raymond Dierksen Adolf Filip and H Koether. survived by husband Ed Hagens children Harvey Verline and a son who predeceased her. Family and friends mourn the devoted wife mother and sister.
Students at St Ludmila's, S L A, rally for a paper drive to fund the Building Fund. They search everywhere for scraps and cardboard, vying to bring the most and heaviest bundles. Call 134 or visit the Convent to donate. volunteers will collect before or after school.
The Shiner Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ladies Auxiliary will meet at Blucher Park on Thursday January 23 1947 at 7 30 p m Refreshments will be served Members of both organizations are urged to attend Joe Strauss Adj.
Mrs. Joe Michna and Mrs. Jerry Mikes host a bridal shower for Miss Dorothy McClanahan in Sweet Home. Guests include Mrs. Gus Ayres from San Antonio and several local families. The weekend also featured attendance at the Filip Rowell wedding and a Karnes City visit by Mrs. Erwin Henkhaus and daughter Joan.
The Shiner Volunteer Fire Department held its annual oyster supper with record attendance. Nine gallons of oysters were served as Post Cafe overflowed with crowds. Fire Chief Richter presided and Ed Herder gave the annual address praising 1946’s perfect fire-loss record and community fire prevention efforts.
Janet Marie, daughter of Mr and Mrs Willie Peterek of Gonzales, was baptized Sunday January 12 by Rev R Hoffmann at Sts Cyril and Methodius Church. Sponsors were Edwin and Anna Louise Novak.

Funeral services were held Monday January 20 at 2 00 p m for Mrs John F Koenning Sr age 76 years 5 months 3 days She died January 18 after eleven weeks of bedridden illness She was born August 15 1870 in Blackjack Fayette County Texas and married John F Koenning December 19 1893 at Breslau Surviving children include four daughters Mrs John Hauschild Harlingen Mrs Fritz Boedeker Shiner Mrs Geo Annie Boedeker Shiner Mrs Arthur Lillie Blohm Yoakum and six sons Adolph Eddie John Jr Fred Shiner Willie Plainview Elo Gonzales One son and one daughter preceded her in death Three sisters Emma Minnie and half sister Hulda survive with half brother Emil Koenning Moravia Thirty seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren Also surviving were many relatives and friends The Rev Edwin Oehlke conducted services at Eschenburg Funeral Parlor and Dr Martin Lutheran Church with burial at Shiner City Cemetery The Gazette extends sympathy to all in their hour of grief.
A VA representative will visit Hallettsville Mondays 1:00 to 4:00 pm and Yoakum Thursdays 9:00 am to 12:00 pm each week, assisting local veterans with NSLI reinstatements. William A. Many friends sympathize with R B Kroulik in the death of his brother Willie Kroulik at his Smithville home. Mr and Mrs Kroulik and daughter Mrs Chas Vrazel of Yoakum attended the funeral services Monday.

Case equipment has been produced since 1842 and covers four tractor sizes plus complete implements. The Gazette welcomes this new business to our growing city.
Mrs Walter Haas and her infant Dorothy Jean along with Mrs Paul Heiman of Schulenburg visited Mrs Annie Heiman Friday. Mrs Willie Peterek and her children returned to Gonzales Sunday. Miss Annie Louise Novak, sister of Mrs Peterek, is staying a few days in the Peterek home.

Mr and Mrs Ervin Schneider of El Campo announce the engagement of their daughter Dorothy to Sam Stoeltje Jr son of Mr and Mrs Sam Erwin Bartosch of Corpus Christi and Shiner. The couple will wed later this year in Shiner.
