Funeral Rites For Mrs Ed Hagens

Mrs Ed Hagens dies at 4 30 pm on Wednesday January 15 after long illness. Funeral held at home Friday 10 am with Rev Ed win Oehlke. Burial at City Cemetery with casket attendants Otto Heerssen Henry Goetz Jr Elo Wolters Raymond Dierksen Adolf Filip and H Koether. survived by husband Ed Hagens children Harvey Verline and a son who predeceased her. Family and friends mourn the devoted wife mother and sister.

Firemen Enjoy Annual Oyster Feast Jan 14

The Shiner Volunteer Fire Department held its annual oyster supper with record attendance. Nine gallons of oysters were served as Post Cafe overflowed with crowds. Fire Chief Richter presided and Ed Herder gave the annual address praising 1946’s perfect fire-loss record and community fire prevention efforts.

Funeral services were held Monday January 20 at 2 00 p m for Mrs John F Koenning Sr age 76 years 5 months 3 days She died January 18 after eleven weeks of bedridden illness She was born August 15 1870 in Blackjack Fayette County Texas and married John F Koenning December 19 1893 at Breslau Surviving children include four daughters Mrs John Hauschild Harlingen Mrs Fritz Boedeker Shiner Mrs Geo Annie Boedeker Shiner Mrs Arthur Lillie Blohm Yoakum and six sons Adolph Eddie John Jr Fred Shiner Willie Plainview Elo Gonzales One son and one daughter preceded her in death Three sisters Emma Minnie and half sister Hulda survive with half brother Emil Koenning Moravia Thirty seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren Also surviving were many relatives and friends The Rev Edwin Oehlke conducted services at Eschenburg Funeral Parlor and Dr Martin Lutheran Church with burial at Shiner City Cemetery The Gazette extends sympathy to all in their hour of grief.

A VA representative will visit Hallettsville Mondays 1:00 to 4:00 pm and Yoakum Thursdays 9:00 am to 12:00 pm each week, assisting local veterans with NSLI reinstatements. William A.
