Shiner Brewery modernizes after 3.2 beer legalisation, with a new four story Brew House and 40 staff. Old Blacksmith Shop Demolished After 58 Years in Downtown
The old blacksmith shop in front of Wolters Bros. Grocery, built in 1888 for Wm. Wendtland Sr., was razed in 1947. Over the years it passed through multiple owners including A. Pfender Ben Schraer and Lee Sedimeyer, with F. J. Fietsam buying the shop this month for lumber. The vacant lot opens a new space once an open area among two story brick buildings. Grandpa Wendtland recalls years of smithing as the structure came down.

Growth and community boom in Shiner Texas 1926 1941
St Ludmila's Academy expanded to 3 stories in 1928 and by 1932 offered 22 1 2 credits with a full 12 grade program. The town saw new churches improvements parks and civic groups, along with extensive municipal upgrades financed by small local bond issues no taxes levied and warrants paid locally. Cotton farming remained characteristically small scale with families able to manage fields themselves.

G E Grady received a surprise gift from Archer Daniels of the Midland Flax Co containing engraved stationery made from Texas flax straw. Flax straw shipped from Kenedy Karnes County last year to test papermaking could create a market for flax growers and allow sale of seed and straw. Watermark reads Ecusta Fine Flax. A drying and curing plant is under construction on the Corpus Christi highway and a product launch date is not yet known.
