Ross Shaw Sterling was sworn in before about 15,000 people at the Texas state house, amid bands and cameras, delivering a vow to govern with honor and reflect credit on the state. The event, hailed as the most perfectly conducted in memory, featured a 17-gun salute.
Student pastor Mr Sommerfeld received the sad news Monday of his father’s death and will be unable to fill his appointment in Shiner next Sunday.
Regular Methodist Church services will be held next Sunday January 25 at 11 A M and 7 PM. Pastor G E Gibbons extends a cordial invitation to attend both services. The Palace Theatre will begin a new serial The Indians are Coming next week.

The world famous St Olaf Choir of St Olaf College Northfield Minn will perform in San Antonio February 1 at the Municipal Auditorium under Grace Lutheran Church. The 60 mixed voices sing unaccompanied with perfect pitch under Dr F Melius Christiansen. Critics applaud the choir for its precision and leadership. The group also plans performances in Brenham February 3 and Houston February 4, drawing interest from Shiner residents.
Dan Moody remains a private citizen today after ten years of service to Texas. He has been District Attorney, Attorney General and Governor, praised for clean government and an unblemished record. Citizens extend goodwill and best wishes for his future.
In Shiner Texas a generous citizen W L Martin funds a 25000 gymnasium for the public school, a modern facility to serve the masses. The Schulenburg Sticker praises his civic spirit and urges others to follow, noting he surpasses wealth alone in value to the community.
Cattle sheep and hogs will be shipped on the second Monday in February the 9th. Notify Leo Hubner Frank Tassler Jr or Herman Caka six days before shipping with any consignments.
The Civic League will hold an important meeting today at the library starting at 3 30 P M. Officers to be elected and other important business to be addressed.
Texas Shiner enforces traffic rules when fire department units respond to alarms. All other vehicles must pull to the right curb and stop until the apparatus passes, and must not follow within 600 feet. Fire vehicles have priority and may not be delayed by any driver or vehicle.
School notes show debaters spellers music memory and essay writers hard at work for March county events. Both girls and boys practice daily in volleyball tennis and other outdoor sports sparked by a new $700 playground. Basketball tournament is near and Martin Memorial Gymnasium will start soon.
The LaGrange Journal notes W L Martin plans to present Shiner High School with a 25000 dollar gymnasium as a memorial to his mother and father. The article commends a man of means for supporting public institutions and public education.
Mrs C C Amsler relayed a call from Miss Mae Hughs of Houston announcing the birth of a son to Mr and Mrs J Brooks Gary at Herman Hospital. The newborn has been named Earl Fry Gary.
