Charity Ball Planned by Business Men's Club

The Business Men's Club launches the new year by replenishing the Community Chest. Mayor Richter reports expenditures. A Charity Ball is approved with all proceeds to the Community Chest. L. E. Denmark, Benno Holchak, P. R. Otto, and Edgar Wolters named as the arranging committee. Bluecher Park is reserved for February 3 at Pohler's Cafe.

Midway Home Demonstration Club Plans Year Work

The Midway Home Demonstration Club will hold its first meeting of the year on January 22 at Mrs. John Marek's home. The January 8 session, canceled due to bad weather, will be combined with this gathering. Enforcement Officers Visit Lavaca County Charges Filed for Unstamped Liquor

Enforcement officers from the State Liquor Control Board visited Lavaca County and filed charges in County Court against Anton Jahn J W Willeford Otto Hanak Sophia Mraz Jake Kurtz for possession of unstamped liquor and dis tilled liquor on sale premises. Otto Turek pled guilty to maintaining a common nuisance with unstamped liquor at his garage and paid the fine.

Stockholders Meeting at Shiner Co Op Gin and Mill

The annual meeting of the stockholders of the Shiner Farmers Co-Operative Gin and Mill Association will be held at the new City Hall in Shiner on Monday morning January 25 at 10 o'clock. James V. Allred was sworn in again as Texas governor on January 19 on an ancient Bible as a 19 gun salute echoed. He read a portion of Second Chronicles while the crowd of dignitaries watched. In Washington Roosevelt prepared for his second inauguration as crowds of 250000 gathered for ceremonies and a grand parade.

J M Canon, collector, warns City of Shiner and Shiner Independent School tax payers that unpaid city and school taxes become delinquent February 1 with a 10 percent penalty. Funeral for Constable Frank Kloesel Draws Large Crowd

One of the area’s largest funerals in years held Thursday afternoon for Constable Frank Kloesel. Services were at the Catholic Church led by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Netardus with Father Bily at the home and grave. District Attorney Henry S. Paulus gave the eulogy as pallbearers and honorary mourners from local officials, judges, and civic leaders attended amid poor weather and lavish floral tributes.
