Body of Kidnapped Boy Found Near Everett

Tacoma dispatch reports ten year old Charles Mattson found brutally beaten and nude in snow near Everett. A hunter discovered the frozen body as Dr W W Mattson rushed toward the scene. Officials seek evidence to indict the kidnapper amid a $28,000 ransom demand and a Roosevelt order to track the slayer.

Remains of Jim Havel Laid to Rest in Local Church

The remains of Jim Havel arrived from Medford Oregon on Sunday. Funeral services were held at the family home and Catholic Church for Requiem High Mass with burial in the Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include mother Mrs Katherine Matus and multiple brothers and sisters. Deceased who was born April 7 1918 died January 8 from pneumonia after service in the D C camp. Local students observed a day of absence in his memory.

Funeral of Constable Frank Kloesel Today

Funeral services for Constable Frank Kloesel will be held today at 2 o'clock from the family residence to the Shiner Catholic Church with burial in the Catholic cemetery. Kloesel, a longtime peace officer born May 10 1876 in Fayette County, died after a five week illness at his home near Shiner. He leaves wife Ida Blume two sons Edwin and Perry and several brothers and sisters. a daughter Alice died in infancy.

Lutheran Ladies Aid Meet Sees Lecture and Visits

The Lutheran Ladies Aid held its regular meeting on Wednesday January 6 at 2 PM with song and prayer. Rev Schuetze lectured on Philippians Chapter 1, inviting interest and benefit for all. Next meeting will present Chapter 2. Gifts were sent to Mrs Wolfsdorf in Houston hospital. Visitors included Mrs E P Kuck Mrs Chas Kuentzel Mrs Walter Paul and others. The group adjourned to Luther Hall for coffee.

Cuero Texas January 12 The slaying of J Z Hardy Yoakum salesman on December 8 appeared solved when Willis Terry a Yoakum highway employee died shortly before 11 am and his wife Mrs Terry confessed to the district attorney that Terry killed Hardy after discovering betrayal. The couple's shed shotgun death followed a gunballistics lead from a .41 caliber pistol seized at the Terry home.

The Shiner Squaws beat San Marcos Baptist Academy 43 to 20 last Friday January 8 at Shiner. The win marks the team’s ninth victory in nine games as the players showcased fast play and strong forward work. After the game the Squaws served hot chocolate and sandwiches.
