The Charlottenburg Dramatic Club features Miss Billa Fiedler in Under The Laurels at the Charlottenburg school building Friday night January 18. Proceeds benefit the school. Admission 10 and 20 cents.
Dr A A Darilek authorizes de Gazette to state he will go to Houston for a special plate work course under Dr Hight. His office will close during his absence from January 21 to January 28. Mrs Darilek will accompany him.
The Ladies Aid Society of the M. E. Church will meet at Mrs. W R Perry's home on Wednesday January 23. It is the first meeting of the year with annual officer elections and dues payment. Mrs. Perry urges all members to attend.
The Gazette offers sympathy to Mr and Mrs R L Martin in the death of their only child Helen Margret aged 13. Funeral held in Floresville on Saturday afternoon January 5 1924. Helen was born here and was the niece of W L Martin, a fellow townsman.
Master James Strauss twelve year old son of Henry J. Strauss of Hallents ville was brought to the hospital on the night train after an air gun accident. His aunt Miss Kopecky R. N. of San Antonio, visiting Hasletts ville, accompanied him. An X ray Friday determined the extent of the injury.
Will Jaroszewski resigns from Woodring- Meyer Lumber Co after four years as local yard manager, effective January 1 1924. He will move to Shiner to become general manager of the yard for Temple Lumber Co, with Mrs Jaroszewski accompanying him. The Yoakum Times notes he is a capable business professional and this departure is a loss for Yoakum but a gain for Shiner.
The Civic League will meet Thursday January 24 at 3 30 PM at Mrs C L Welhausen’s home. The session will cover annual officer elections and dues payment with urging for all members to attend.
Social notice invites the public to a dance at Henkhaus Wednesday January 23 featuring music by Cornelson's Happy Six. Admission details not listed.

Ep Fischnar of Shiner Texas announces resignation from Lynch Davids on Lumber Co after since April 1921 to join Temple Lumber Co in the city. He thanks friends for support and expresses appreciation to former manager O W Miller for guidance. Dated January 5 1924 with 2t-12.
Jan 31 is the limit for paying taxes. After that date a ten percent penalty will be added. Pros. A J. Canon, City Collector, urges residents to come in now to save the penalty, noting only a few days remain.
San Antonio was visited by Perr from W, RA last week with local observers noting a brief engagement and travel details not fully disclosed.
The old First National Bank officers include president C B Welhausen and vice presidents E Fr Wolters Wm Green and Phillip Welhausen Polk Welhausen CrsJe and Perry Wendtland as assistant cashier. The first five officials constitute the board of directors.
The Farmers State Bank announces officers including President Chas J Garbade and D Garbade Sr, with Henry Dreyer Sr as Vice President. Directors include Theo Rogge. Cashier is E Runk and Assistant Cashier Miss Anna Begka.
Reginald Mergenthealer of ps Houston has been the guest of his parents this week.
Mrs. C. R. Longoria hosted the Five Hundred Club at her West End home Friday afternoon. New member Mrs. Louis Fink joined, replacing Miss Hila Playman who has entered Baptist Sanitarium in Houston. Mrs. J. Henkhaus won first prize, a Japanese dresser set, and Mrs. Tom Nowlin received consolation for high score. A salad course followed for numerous members and guests including H. G. Hollman, W. E. Merrem, Victor Wolters, and others.
W. J. Grunder of Cuero was elected president with E. Runk as vice president and T. M. Nowlin as secretary and treasurer. Additional directors include C. L. Grunder of Victoria J. Y. Bell of Cuero Chas J Garbade and O C Henkhaus of Shiner. The report notes 27148 bales of cotton handled in 1928 and plans for limited improvements for 1924.
Mr. W. M. Koch came in from Victoria Monday to look after his business interests in Shiner. He took a Tun cover to Hallettsville Tuesday returning here Wednesday.
