Mrs Magdalene Dreyer obituary in The Gazette

The Gazette records the death of Mrs Magdalena Dreyer age 92 years 2 months 10 days at her daughter’s home Mrs Walter Manchen in a quiet peaceful passing. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 2 PM. Surviving children include Henry Dreyer Jr Slaton Herman Yoakum A Q Dreyer El Paso Mrs Theo Rogge Mrs Walter Manchen Julius Dreyer Shiner and Ed Dreyer. A fuller life sketch will appear next week.

Cockerel Hugo Stoeltje leads winners with all other awards at the Columbian Wyandottes class where Ad Brunkenhoefer placed 2nd young pen. Alfred Stoeltje earned all other awards in Silverlaced Wyandottes. Harry Zacharias took 1st young pen, Black Austrolorp with Tom Mikeska. White Holland Turkeys went to Rudy Chumchal with 1st cockerel and 1st and 2nd pullets. Bronze Turkeys awarded to Chas. Chova netz for 1st cock and 1st and 2nd hens.

Christmas Tree of Light Ceremonies Delight Rural Town

A Christmas program published in the Gazette drew a large crowd despite cold weather. Ernest Schultz led the Hallettsville band while St. Ludmila's Academy and a high school chorus performed carols. Rev. Wolfsdorf opened with invocation as R. L. Hays delivered a moving Christmas address. Santa handed out 500 gift packages to kids ten and under. The Lothrop School of Dancing staged Santa's Toyshop with elaborate costumes and dances, though attendance fell short of expectations due to competing events.

Christmas Mass Draws Large Crowd at St Ludmila’s Parish

At midnight mass the Catholic Church welcomed a large crowd of parishioners and visitors for Christmas prayers. St Ludmila's Academy hosted a Christmas program with a tree and Santa Claus, filling the parish hall beyond capacity.

United Dr Martin Luther Church held a Sunday School program and Christmas tree at City Auditorium. Attendance was so high that standing room was required. The inspirational program delighted all and Santa Claus was lavish in his memories.

A group of twenty Christmas carolers led by general chairman Mrs. J. W. Boyle spread cheer on Christmas Eve. Rev. Roth provided welcome inspiration. Jos. Patek and Miss Edith Wolters contributed with a saxophone and trumpet, aiding the music substantially.

Third Victim of Cuero Crash Dies

Cuero Texas December 28 three lives claimed in a holiday crash on the Yoakum highway. Wesley Henkhaus 19 of Yoakum dies in hospital after the head on collision that killed Dorothy Parks 20 of Cuero and Daniel Machac 19 of Yoakum. Henkhaus son of Mr and Mrs William Henkhaus of Yoakum. He had been under contract with the St Louis Cardinals and gained recognition in 1938 in the DeWitt County Community league as a versatile hurler.
