New Year Starts Plans for Fair by Shiner Chamber

The Shiner Chamber of Commerce held its regular meeting January 2 1936 at New City Hall with President Jaroszewski presiding. Minutes approved. Bills totaling 60 for a rest room and 4263 for Community Christmas tree were approved for payment. A referendum on Social Security Act was assigned to a committee to study and vote. A Hallettsville Rotary trip was reported and plans for a 1936 fair discussed. a special January 3 board meeting approved launching an agricultural fair in 1986 with two committees formed to obtain grounds and manage details.

Canning totaled 4 143 quarts valued at 1 005 93 dollars with fresh produce adding 1 314 47 and sales 21 22 dollars, totaling 2 341 62. Women led clothing projects with dozens of garments and two new closets plus cupboards. Also notes 63 553 quarts canned valued at 16 979 15, meat cured, pantries built, and wardrobe patterns creating 2 456 65 in garments. The obituary of Mrs Magdalena Dreyer details a long life, 92 years and 2 months, survived by five sons, two daughters, 32 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and many friends.
