Lavaca County Shifts from Special to General Road Law

Lavaca County moves from the special road law to the general road law. Former county commissioners served as road supervisors earning 300 dollars yearly each, total 1200 dollars, no longer paid under the new law. Senator D A Paulus returns home for a day to attend the anti pass bill debate and will back the sheriff and peace officer exemption.

Residence burned At Flatonia Texas

Fire destroyed the home of Dr. W. M. Tucker in northern Flatonia on a Friday afternoon. Dr. Tucker and Dr. Dixie Tucker tried to save belongings but flames progressed. furniture and library valued at $1,500, with little saved. The house, owned by William Sullivan of Giddings, was only partly insured.

Apply for Citizenship in Lavaca County

Thirteen applications for citizenship papers were filed with the District Clerk for the March term of the District Court. Birthplaces include Austria nine times Germany three times Poland once. Six arrived at New York seven at Galveston. No Candidates Yet for Shiner Town Offices

As of now there are no candidates filed for the Shiner mayor or five aldermen seats. Elections are set for the first Tuesday in April with voters urged to come forward if they want the positions.

District Court Adjourns Naturlization Session at Gonzales

Gonzales Feb 8 District court will adjourn tomorrow for the term. Only a few cases tried by jury, yet much business disposed of with fewer jurors and witnesses. Judge Kennon ill, W D C Jonas named special judge. G M Good jailed two years for bigamy. Eight persons granted final naturalization papers.

From Halletsville To Raise Road Tax

Halleteville reports the skating rink enterprise is abandoned. The rink floor is sold and removed. Commissioners' Court will seek to raise the road and bridge tax from 6 cents, producing about $4,000 for road improvements.

Change of Firm Gus Blaschke Purchases Levygon Business

Gus Blaschke informs the public he bought the Levygon business and will serve patrons from his dry goods and notions stock. He invites old customers and friends to call and exchange with him, hoping for continued business with the new firm A Levyson. In court, Harry Landa, owner of the Barrel House and Cotton Exchange saloon, was tried for selling liquor to minors, convicted, fined $25 and costs, with a motion for a new trial denied by Justice G Peterson.
