Rites Held For Ondrusek Infant

A baby boy named Joseph Ondrusek died shortly after birth at the local hospital born December 26 at 6 a.m. He weighed nine pounds and his funeral was held at Buffington Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas J. Collins officiating. Interment followed at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Survived by parents Emil and wife, three brothers Allan Richard Larry, sister Eugenia and grandfather Joe Novak.

Petru 87 of Yoakum were held at Buffington Chapel and St Josephs Church in Yoakum on Saturday Dec 26 at 10 am Rev Julius Petru officiated with interment at St Josephs Cemetery He was born in Czechoslovakia in 1866 and died in Houston Dec 24 Surviving are five daughters three sons a brother and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren

Negro Killed In Car Track Crash Near Moulton

Calvin Brownlow 26, of Houston and Shiner, died when his 1947 Ford skidded on wet pavement and struck Elmo Kaiser's cattle trailer truck on Highway 95 one mile south of Moulton. Neither Kaiser nor Marvin Seitz was injured. damage to the truck was about 800 dollars.

A Grand Prairie post office worker recounted a man who bought postage with a five dollar bill after realizing he had mailed a card un stamped last week. The anonymous customer said the gesture would bring a merry Christmas to some, a first in twenty years of service.

Miss Mary Anna Jaks of Shiner died December 28 after a brief illness at 72. She was born in Jelemek Czechoslovakia and came to America in 1882. Yale Winners Lighting Contest

The Knights of Columbus sponsored Yale’s Christmas yard lighting contest naming winners in the residential section. First place went to Dr. and Mrs. Robert Wagner for a doorway scene, second to Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Waldrop for a Nativity display, and third to Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Kasper for a Santa Claus yard. Intermittent drizzle smog dust and fog marked December. A 26 degree Christmas Eve opened with a cold northerly wind continuing through the night and below freezing temperatures. Total rainfall for the month was 2.10 inches as authorities warn of icy highways and advise residents to protect livestock plumbing pets and plants.

Louis Hybner born December 10 1938 died December 23 at 2 45 pm after a lifetime of suffering. He is survived by parents four brothers three sisters and one predeceased brother. Funeral services were held December 24 at 2 30 pm at Shiner Catholic Church with burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery.

Dallas area doctor rushed to San Antonio after heart attack

Dr. C. T. Dufner Lavaca County health officer was taken by ambulance to San Antonio after suffering a heart attack. Specialists conferred at Hallettsville and cardiograms were studied soon after he became ill. His condition was described as satisfactory in the latest reports.

Large Irish potatoes praised by local gardener

Fritz Sander complimented the Gazette with a fall garden report about extra large red Irish potatoes. He raised them in his garden from August 28 to December 17, a 16 week crop aided by furrow digging and Mrs Sander planting. The pair credit their early rising routine for the fruitful harvest.
