Sallie Lane Shipman Buried in Bay City

Mrs. Sallie Lane Shipman aged 93 died in Herman Hospital Houston and was buried in Bay City beside her husband C. M. Shipman. She was daughter of Rev Charles Lane and Ellen Crockett Lane, pioneer Fayette County citizens. Survivors include brother Will G. Lane and sister Amelia Lane with many nieces and nephews. Preceding her were five Lane brothers and two Lane sisters.

Grandma Janzen dies at 100 in Schulenburg Texas

Funeral services for Anna Fiedler Janzen, Fayette County’s oldest citizen, were held in Schulenburg after she died Sunday night from influenza following a 100th birthday. Born 1853, she lived with her two sons Fred and Henry Janzen and daughter Mrs Charles Miller, leaving 11 children, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren. Burial was at High Hill Cemetery with Rev. William C Anderson officiating.

Shiner Volunteer Fire Department Dance Planned for New Year’s Eve

The Shiner Volunteer Fire Department announces its annual New Year’s Eve Dance at Legion Park on December 3. Joe Patek’s Orchestra provides music. Admission is 75 cents for men and 25 cents for women. The event proceeds regardless of weather with no fireworks allowed on park premises.

Lavaca County Commissioners Court approves Sheriff Theo Long hiring one more deputy at up to 240 dollars monthly. The move aims to maximize use of the recently installed police radio and improve cooperation with the Highway Patrol, with expanded hours and weekend night service anticipated.

Frank Hrabovsky 93 laid to rest in Yoakum

Funeral services for Frank Hrabovsky aged 93 were held December 16 at Buffington Chapel and St. Ann's Church in Yoakum with Msgr. Joseph A. Pustka officiating. Interment followed at St. Ann's Cemetery. He died December 14 in Yoakum and was born February 11, 1860 in Czechoslovakia. He is survived by four sons, three daughters, twelve grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
