A semi formal dance at Legion Park hosted by Shiner Soda lity features Blume's Orchestra of La Grange. Admission is $1.50 per couple or single. The notice accompanies the Gazette's year end closing, marking 61 years of community coverage.
Shiner Volunteer Fire Department selects officers for the coming year including President W C Schmidt Chief Wilbur Minear Assistant Chief Bennie Simper Secretary Treasurer John E Kasper and foremen and assistants for several pumpers with local gratitude from The Gazette for community support over 61 years and Christmas wishes for 1954.
The Christmas dance for Shiner Dance Club members and guests will be held Tuesday December 29 at Legion Park with music by Jurecka Orchestra.
Edmund A. Kremling of Shiner died December 20 at St. Marys Hospital Galveston at age 63 11 2. Funeral at Shiner Catholic Church December 23 with burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Survived by wife Martha Palitza daughters sons and many relatives.
Mrs. Sallie Lane Shipman aged 93 died in Herman Hospital Houston and was buried in Bay City beside her husband C. M. Shipman. She was daughter of Rev Charles Lane and Ellen Crockett Lane, pioneer Fayette County citizens. Survivors include brother Will G. Lane and sister Amelia Lane with many nieces and nephews. Preceding her were five Lane brothers and two Lane sisters.
Lavaca County A. M. Club announces its annual dance at the Hallettsville Recreation Hall on Saturday December 26 Claude Harris and His Orchestra will supply music. The event offers a chance for present and former students and friends to gather.
The pastor will preach at the 10 45 morning service on Sunday December 27 with special choir music. There is no 7 00 p m service. Regular services resume January 3 1954 at 10 45 a m with the sacrament of the Lord s Supper observed.
The Gonzales Baptist Association hosts a Youth Rally at Shiner Baptist Church on Saturday December 26 at 8 p.m. The events include inspirational singing testimonials and a gospel message from a prominent youth leader. Schedule also lists Christmas Eve candlelight service Christmas Day worship and a series of church activities through January with reminders for annual reports.
Funeral services for Anna Fiedler Janzen, Fayette County’s oldest citizen, were held in Schulenburg after she died Sunday night from influenza following a 100th birthday. Born 1853, she lived with her two sons Fred and Henry Janzen and daughter Mrs Charles Miller, leaving 11 children, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren. Burial was at High Hill Cemetery with Rev. William C Anderson officiating.
The Shiner Volunteer Fire Department announces its annual New Year’s Eve Dance at Legion Park on December 3. Joe Patek’s Orchestra provides music. Admission is 75 cents for men and 25 cents for women. The event proceeds regardless of weather with no fireworks allowed on park premises.
Lavaca County Commissioners Court approves Sheriff Theo Long hiring one more deputy at up to 240 dollars monthly. The move aims to maximize use of the recently installed police radio and improve cooperation with the Highway Patrol, with expanded hours and weekend night service anticipated.

Funeral services for Frank Hrabovsky aged 93 were held December 16 at Buffington Chapel and St. Ann's Church in Yoakum with Msgr. Joseph A. Pustka officiating. Interment followed at St. Ann's Cemetery. He died December 14 in Yoakum and was born February 11, 1860 in Czechoslovakia. He is survived by four sons, three daughters, twelve grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
