Mrs Hurta Rites Held In Shiner Funeral

Mary M Hurta 69 died December 12 at Wagner Hospital. Funeral at Buffington Funeral Home December 14 then Czech Moravian Brethren Church with burial at Vlastenec Cemetery. Survivors include four daughters and three sons. She was born in 1884 in Rakovach Moravia and came to America in 1906.

Albert Schraer funeral rites held in Shiner

Albert F. Schraer a former Shiner resident died in San Antonio at 48. Services were at Shiner Catholic Church with Requiem High Mass and Rosary. Born August 28 1905 he worked in San Antonio and Houston before Army service in Europe. Survived by wife Mollie two brothers and a sister. preceded by parents and two sisters. Interment in Shiner Catholic Cemetery with pallbearers named.

Fred Selzer Dies In Local Community

Respected resident Fred Selzer died December 13 at Wagner Hospital after a three week illness. Born October 1 1876 in Boelten Austria he immigrated to America aged four and lived in Weimar Hallettsville Oak Grove Shiner. Survived by wife Emily Fehler, two children, two grandchildren and other relatives. services held at United Dr Martin Luther Church with burial in Shiner City Cemetery.

Fireworks ban enforcement at public gatherings urged citywide

Warning prohibits shooting fireworks anywhere near businesses or streets surrounding public gatherings in the city. Officials cite fire safety and protection of property and align with State Fire Insurance Commission requests. Citizens urged to cooperate.

Shiner Volunteer Fire Dept New Year Dance Set

The Shiner Volunteer Fire Department hosts its annual New Year Eve Dance at Legion Park on December 31. Joe Patek’s Orchestra will provide music. Admission is 75 cents for men and 25 cents for women. The dance proceeds rain or shine with no fireworks on park premises.

Christmas Services At Multiple Churches

Christmas morning services feature The Shepherds Christmas and The Song and The Star at the Methodist Church with a sermon Putting Christ into Christmas and hymns. The Methodist Church School plans a 6 30 p m program with scripture readings hymns carols and an annual Christmas offerings to the Orphanage at Waco Santa Claus gifts and benediction. Shiner Drey er Lutheran events include caroling choir practices confirmations and a German pre Christmas service plus a Christmas program at Shiner High School gym. Baptist Sunday School holds Christmas exercises and a pageant while United Dr Martin Luther Church School presents The Christmas Story in scripture and song with a Holy Night film finale.

Funeral services for Mrs. Frank Balusek were held at Kubena Funeral Home Hallettsville and Vsetin CMB Church with burial in Vsetin Cemetery. She died in a Wharton hospital December 13 aged 83, survived by three sons three daughters and many grandchildren. Band concert scheduled for December 18.

Edwin Boehm Wins Monterrey Sales Trip

Edwin Boehm of Shiner Texas won a Monterrey Mexico sales trip as a district winner in a statewide Ford Tractor dealer contest. Eight other Ford Tractor dealers from Texas join the trip sponsored by The Stewart Company with tourism to Vil la de Santiago Horsetail Falls and Saltillo. The group includes dealers from Weatherford Karnes City Brady Mercedes Monday Cole man Mexia and Mt Pleasant with Stewart Company executives. The trip covers two days of sightseeing and is part of a year end sales program by Texas Ford Tractor distributors.

Rural Telephone Project Near Completion by Feb First 1954

Construction of rural phone lines continues with about 60 connections finished. The Dreyer area is complete and two crews are active on the Sweet Home and Halletts ville road project with an expected finish around February 1, 1954.
