Funeral services for Carl Eggert, who died in San Antonio Tuesday, are set for Thursday at 2:00 p.m. from United Dr. Martin Luther Church. Interment will be in Charlottenburg Cemetery. He was 74 years old.
M Sgt Burns Burkett of Hq 4th Infantry receives the Commendation ribbon for saving two soldiers during ski training at Ranger Creek Washington on February 13 1950. He carried a hot stove away from a collapsing tent despite severe burns. Burkett writes from Fort Richardson Alaska praising army life and asking prayers for himself and Korea bound men.
The Business Men's Club will hold its last meeting of the year tonight at 7 o'clock at the Pustejovsky Cafe. Notify the Gazette by 3 p.m. if attendance is impossible. otherwise members will have a prepared plate and a super feed is promised.
At the Shiner Rotary Club meeting on Monday December 11 the group endorsed city officials and the Shiner Fire Department efforts to prevent fires during Christmas. They urged children to avoid fireworks near dry grass and asked parents to cooperate by disposing of cigarette stubs and matches safely. The club thanked citizens for past cooperation and hopes for a fire-free Christmas in Shiner.
It is urged that a large representation of the citizenship be on hand Friday December 15 to welcome the postal department highway mail coach at 4 50 p m Mayor Paul R Otto will welcome the service and accompanying officials A large volume of mail mostly for stamp collectors will be carried by the postal bus in its railway mail coach compartments The public is invited to inspect the interior of the large bus which will pause in Shiner ten minutes.
Mayor Paul R. Otto called on Shiner residents to join a nationwide Christmas safety drive led by the National Safety Council and 161 partner organizations. He warned that holidays bring extra hazards from winter weather and dusk traffic and urged personal responsibility to prevent accidents at home and on the streets.
Evergreen PTA members held a regular meeting on Thursday night December 7 presided by Louis Michalec. Minutes by Mrs Edwin Darilek noted. The main topic was the Christmas program set for Wednesday December 20 at 7 30 pm. After business several games of 42 were enjoyed. The next meeting is February 1.
The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Seidenberger of Corpus Christi died nine hours after birth. He was their first child. Last rites and burial occurred in Corpus Christi. Survived by his parents and grandparents Mrs. Minnie Seidenberger and Mr. and Mrs. Wokaty of Corpus Christi.
The Shiner Comanches meet Weimar Wildcats in the first game of the Moulton Invitational Basketball Tournament on Friday at 1 30 p m Other teams include Sheridan Waelder Smithville Flatonia St Josephs of Victoria St Josephs of Yoakum Schulenburg and Moulton The event runs Friday to Saturday with trophies for winners and all tournament team members mini silver basketballs for ten players The public is invited to attend all games.
The St. Ludmila's Academy announces a Christmas program for Thursday night December 21 at City Hall Auditorium at 7 30 o'clock. Pupils of the grades will present the operetta Santa in Southland.
The Knights of Columbus sponsor a Christmas lawn decorating contest in Shi ner with judging the week before Christmas and Christmas Eve. Prizes are 15 dollars for first, 10 dollars for second, and 5 dollars for third.
Funeral services are announced for Thursday afternoon at 2 30 o clock in Flatonia for William Albrecht of Flatonia who died Tuesday in Renger Hospital Halletts ville. The death is mourned by Mrs J J Sedlmeyer and many friends.
Knights of Columbus announces a family Christmas party to be held Sunday December 17 1950 at City Hall at 8 00 pm all members and their families are asked to be present.
Christmas Day and New Year Day will close all business houses. With Sunday preceding, stores close Saturday evening December 23 and December 31 and do not reopen until Tuesday December 26 and Tuesday January 2 1951. Housewives should note the closing days.
Advertising runs this weekend for the ShinerFiremen's annual New Year Eve benefit dance at Legion Park Sunday December 31 at 8 pm. Fireworks prohibited on the grounds and the event will proceed regardless of weather. Music by Pateks. Admission 60 cents for gentlemen 25 cents for ladies tax included.
A cold wave moved in with no rain and strong winds. Temperatures fell to 19 degrees Wednesday and 18 degrees Thursday morning, ice coated gardens and pipes burst across the area as a 50 degree drop intensified the chill.
Pfc Bohumil Tomek stationed with Infantry in Korea reports to parents Mr and Mrs Louis J Tomek Rt 1 Shiner that he earned a badge for actions under enemy ground fire during Sept 26 28 near Osan Tugge Hoeng Jongni in Korea. Medal to be received later. Letter received about three weeks ago.
Mr and Mrs Marion Winkenwerder announce a baby boy born December 9 at the local hospital weighing eight pounds. Mr and Mrs John L Schovassa report their first child a daughter born December 7 weighing 7 pounds 14 ounces named Carol Elaine, mother Wilma Wendt formerly.
The Shiner Gazette announces its annual Christmas Greeting Goodwill edition to publish on December 21. Businesses, professionals, and individuals are urged to submit greetings by December 16. The issue will reach thousands during the Yuletide season and will be printed in sections with early church announcements requested. Call 69 for assistance.
The Gazette urges shoppers in Shiner and vicinity to use Christmas advertisements as a guide. Do your Christmas shopping at once to avoid a last minute rush and crush.
An immense crowd gathered in Shiner Friday evening as Santa Claus arrived at 5:30 pm to a flawless sunset. About 1500 children, the community, and area residents greeted him while the Shiner High School Band led the escort to the Christmas tree. The event featured Yule carols by the Catholic Girl Scouts Troop 3 led by Mrs. Eddie Jaks, amplified for listeners including shut-ins. All children received a gift as street lights illuminated a festive, orderly scene.
The Methodist Sunday School will hold a Christmas tree on Sunday night December 17 at 6 30. No special program is planned beyond Christmas carols. Santa Claus will visit and give a gift to every child. An early hour is requested for the small children and Santa wishes to call before the children sleep. During offertory the annual free will offering for the Methodist Orphanage will be observed.

Mrs. Joe F Roznovsky died December 11 at 6 15 pm at age 74 11 2. Funeral Mass was held December 13 at Sts Cyril and Methodius church with Rosary December 12. Burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Survived by five daughters three sons 28 grandchildren two great grandchildren and many relatives.
