Funeral services for Carl Eggert, who died in San Antonio Tuesday, are set for Thursday at 2:00 p.m. from United Dr. Martin Luther Church. Interment will be in Charlottenburg Cemetery. He was 74 years old.

Heroic Action Rewarded In Far Away Alaska

M Sgt Burns Burkett of Hq 4th Infantry receives the Commendation ribbon for saving two soldiers during ski training at Ranger Creek Washington on February 13 1950. He carried a hot stove away from a collapsing tent despite severe burns. Burkett writes from Fort Richardson Alaska praising army life and asking prayers for himself and Korea bound men.

Rotary Club Urges Fire Prevention That Christmas Season

At the Shiner Rotary Club meeting on Monday December 11 the group endorsed city officials and the Shiner Fire Department efforts to prevent fires during Christmas. They urged children to avoid fireworks near dry grass and asked parents to cooperate by disposing of cigarette stubs and matches safely. The club thanked citizens for past cooperation and hopes for a fire-free Christmas in Shiner.

Welcome To Highway P. D. Urged Friday

It is urged that a large representation of the citizenship be on hand Friday December 15 to welcome the postal department highway mail coach at 4 50 p m Mayor Paul R Otto will welcome the service and accompanying officials A large volume of mail mostly for stamp collectors will be carried by the postal bus in its railway mail coach compartments The public is invited to inspect the interior of the large bus which will pause in Shiner ten minutes.

Mayor Urges Safe Yuletide During National Campaign

Mayor Paul R. Otto called on Shiner residents to join a nationwide Christmas safety drive led by the National Safety Council and 161 partner organizations. He warned that holidays bring extra hazards from winter weather and dusk traffic and urged personal responsibility to prevent accidents at home and on the streets.

Evergreen P T A Yale Program Sequel Christmas Show Planned

Evergreen PTA members held a regular meeting on Thursday night December 7 presided by Louis Michalec. Minutes by Mrs Edwin Darilek noted. The main topic was the Christmas program set for Wednesday December 20 at 7 30 pm. After business several games of 42 were enjoyed. The next meeting is February 1.

Seidenberger Infant Dies In Corpus Christi

The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Seidenberger of Corpus Christi died nine hours after birth. He was their first child. Last rites and burial occurred in Corpus Christi. Survived by his parents and grandparents Mrs. Minnie Seidenberger and Mr. and Mrs. Wokaty of Corpus Christi.

A cold wave moved in with no rain and strong winds. Temperatures fell to 19 degrees Wednesday and 18 degrees Thursday morning, ice coated gardens and pipes burst across the area as a 50 degree drop intensified the chill.

Santa Arrives On Schedule With Yule Gifts

An immense crowd gathered in Shiner Friday evening as Santa Claus arrived at 5:30 pm to a flawless sunset. About 1500 children, the community, and area residents greeted him while the Shiner High School Band led the escort to the Christmas tree. The event featured Yule carols by the Catholic Girl Scouts Troop 3 led by Mrs. Eddie Jaks, amplified for listeners including shut-ins. All children received a gift as street lights illuminated a festive, orderly scene.

Yule Tree Methodist Sunday School Christmas Event

The Methodist Sunday School will hold a Christmas tree on Sunday night December 17 at 6 30. No special program is planned beyond Christmas carols. Santa Claus will visit and give a gift to every child. An early hour is requested for the small children and Santa wishes to call before the children sleep. During offertory the annual free will offering for the Methodist Orphanage will be observed.
