Funeral Rites Held for Carl Eggert in Shiner
Carl Eggert died December 12 in a San Antonio hospital after a two month illness at age 74 years 8 months 28 days. Born in Hamburg Germany March 14 1876 he immigrated to America aged two. Surviving are his wife Elizzie Schelling and five children. Funeral services were held December 14 at United Dr Martin Luther Church with interment at Charlottenburg Cemetery.

Tragedy after Yoakum Shiner crash claims teen life
Marvin Uherek 16 of Yoakum Route 1 died in Shiner Hospital after a Sunday one vehicle wreck on the Old Mustang Creek bridge. Billy Cockroft 15 and Alvin Ray Sheffield 15 were injured in the 1949 Ford pickup crash that demolished the vehicle and left two boys seriously hurt. Cherek died from brain concussion and injuries.

Firemen Battle Grass Fire On School Grounds
The Shiner Volunteer Fire Company answered a 2:30 p.m. alarm on the High School Campus. A grass fire started by burning paper near school property ran out of control amid dry grass on vacant school lots. Firefighters chose to burn off the campus and adjoining lots to control the blaze. This was the only alarm in weeks, unlike some towns with eleven alarms in one day.
