The Expression Class presents The Doctor of Lonesome Folk a Christmas pantomime with Dickens era costumes. Intermediate pupils close with The Court of King Christmas. Monday night December 18 at the Gym Auditorium admission will be charged due to royalties.
George Matula aged 84 years 9 months 11 days died in Hallettsville on Tuesday and will be buried there today. He was the father of Mrs. W. J. Fehrenkamp and is survived by other relatives. Sympathy is extended to the family.
Shiner Chapter No 272 of the Eastern Star will hold a meeting on December 12 at 7 p.m. All members and visiting members are invited. Era McDonald, W M.
The church announces Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and Divine Service at 10:30 a.m. in German, with 7:30 p.m. English in Dreyer. Saturday instruction at 8:30 a.m. Shiner, 10:30 a.m. Dreyer, 3:30 p.m. Junior help arranged by Mission Society. Rev. Richard Schuetze speaks on Advent as discovery and renewal through Christ.
The Women's Society of the Lutheran Church will hold an English service on December 13 at 7 p m replacing the regular meeting before Christmas. The society extends a cordial invitation to all to attend.
Christian Science services announce the Lesson Sermon "God, the Preserver of Man" to be read in all churches Sunday at 11 am. The golden text from Psalms 121:8 proclaims the Lord shall preserve thy going out and coming in forever. The lesson includes II Timothy 4:18 asserting deliverance from evil and preservation unto the heavenly kingdom.

Mrs. John Valis Sr. of Shiner died last Friday at 9 p m aged 79 years 2 months and 5 days Her life touched many with kindness and devotion Her funeral was held Sunday from her daughter's home with Requiem High Mass at Sts Cyril and Methodius Church Interment followed at the Catholic cemetery Survivors include two sons John Jr and Joe Valis two daughters Mrs Jim Kral and Mrs T J Husinecky 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren The family extends deep sympathy.
The John Deere Day event drew about 700 registrants, with one attendee per family, in Dallas. P Thompson and Frank Tarpley assisted Emil Hajek in presenting the program, featuring talking pictures and field demonstrations of the latest John Deere implements. The Hajek Implement and Supply Company will service and repair all sold machinery, and refreshments were enjoyed by all.

St Ludmila's P T A holds a food sale at the Koch Building next to the Gazette office on Saturday December 9 offering a fine Sunday menu with chicken and cake. Proceeds support the school PTA activities.
Regular meeting of the High School P. T. A. will be held in the school auditorium on Thursday, December 14 at 3 30 p.m. Members are urged to attend for plans and reports.

Delinquent subscribers may pay up to date at this price, with the office staying open to 9 p m on Friday December 8 for Santa Claus. A referendum on Cotton Marketing Quotas for 1940 will be held in Shiner on December 9, 1939. Polls open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Farmers urged to vote at C Community Shiner Blohm Building and Sulphur Park Store.
Science on Parade showcases the Induction Furnace and Oscillograph with demonstrations of heatless kitchen cooking an egg in a skillet, germ destruction, wireless light control, voice recording, and gyroscope prize. Santa Claus visits 5 30 to 7 30 before the show at 7 45 Friday night December 8.
The Community Demonstration Club will hold a Christmas Party with all members invited. Gifts will be exchanged, and the event will take place at Mrs. Rudolph Fillip's home on December 14.
A Model A coupe driven by Lorraine Osborn and a Chevrolet sedan driven by John Werner collided near the Lutheran church Tuesday evening. Osborn suffered cuts and bruises and remains in the local hospital. Werner was uninjured. Both cars were badly damaged.
A three act comedy titled Don't Darken My Door will be staged at Menger School on December 7 at 7 30 p m. Admission is 10 and 20 cents.
A letter of gratitude from Anna Marie Muras expresses thanks to friends for flowers, cards, prayers, calls, visits, and well wishes during illness. She credits Doctor Wagner for help and extends blessings to all who offered support and friendship.
Mrs. C. R. Mundy and Charles returned Sunday from a visit to Dallas.
A Schulze car returning from Schulenburg turned over near Moulton after veering to avoid another vehicle. Miss Hertha von Beckmann suffered a broken arm and several bruises, while the others escaped serious injury. Von Beckmann and his sister reside in Austin and were visiting. The car sustained heavy damage.
Mr and Mrs W H Burt of Oak Grove announce the birth of their son born Saturday. He is named Kenneth Ray and joins the family as their second child in the household.
Messrs H H Striebeck Elo Wolters and Mesdames Mary Berckenhoff and Viasta Chandler spent Sunday in San Antonio returning refreshed for spring engagements and social duties.

The annual country store sponsored by St. Ludmila's P T A will be held December 9 at the Koch building beside the Gazette office. It offers eggs sausages bacon lard noodles cakes dressed chickens and dressed turkeys plus fancy work like cup towels pillow cases scarves aprons children's dresses bonnets and pot holders. Visitors are invited to browse the fancy work and buy gifts for friends.
A regular Garden Club meeting will be held at Mrs. Wm Zappe's home on Friday December 15 at 3 o clock. The program features Christmas arrangements including wreaths and table decorations with flowers berries or shrubs and other decorations.
Otto Turek takes charge of the Faytex Service Station on the Shiner Hallettsville Highway across from the Catholic Church. The station retails Barnsdall B Square Products and Century Tires. Mr. Turek invites friends and the public to visit his new business location.
A brief note from Mrs. Rudie Baros thanks friends in Shiner for cards letters and flowers memories during her Temple Hospital stay. Appreciation expressed for every kind thought.
Mr and Mrs Edwin Otto express deep thanks to friends and neighbors for deeds words and floral tributes during illness and after the death of Henry Morgenroth. They cherish the comfort as a beautiful memory and pray God reward all who helped.
Leo Kuykendall, a colored employee at the local oil mill and occasional helper at Hajek's Meat Market, suffered severe injury when his left hand was caught in a meat grinder on Tuesday morning. He lost all fingers and part of the hand, received hospital care, and is reported to be doing well.
Thanksgiving guests at the E. J. Merrem home included Miss Emma Merrem and her brother Wm S. Merrem, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Miley, Frank Merrem, and Bennie K. Balkie of Schulenburg.
