Processing Tax Rules On Hog and Corn In A A A Program

Texas A M Extension swine specialist E M Regenbrecht explains who owes the new processing tax on hogs and corn under the A A A program. Taxes go to the U S internal revenue collectors in Austin and Dallas. payment and forms are routed through county agents. Hog owners who slaughter and sell meat pay the tax, with exemptions for self-consumed hogs. restaurants and hotels that slaughter for boarders also owe. Tax rates rise from 50 cents per hundred pounds, to 1.00 in December, 1.50 in January, and 2.00 after February 1. Corn is tax exempt when sold or traded, or when ground into meal or flour the tax applies. farm households’ use is exempt. Government to Buy 143 Cutter Cows in Lavaca County

The government will purchase 143 cutter cows from Lavaca County for relief. Cows will be sold and paid for in Austin, Texas, with permits issued only by the County Agent to eligible producers. Shiner Unemployed Traffic Blocked At City Hall

Shiner's unemployed reported for work Monday as 169 registrations were filed but only 73 could be given jobs. County administrator Victor Dziewas left a communication to the public explaining the calculation. Commissioner Seim noted 40 men on county projects, City Street Commissioner Kasper had 33 on streets, and E A Dreyer supervised the process prioritizing heads of families and those in real need with no other work.

Ed Gehrels Dies at Temple in Texas

Ed Gehrels 56 died after a period of illness soon after noon Monday. Survived by wife, two children Mrs. De Witt Nowlin of Houston and Edwin Gehrels of Shiner, and one grandson. The funeral is set for Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. with a fuller obituary to follow.
