Cree of Light Ceremonies in Welhausen Park

Weather permitting, Welhausen Park will host a community Christmas Tree lighting next Sunday at 6 p m The program includes Julius Schultz Band invocation by Rev Richard Schuetze carols by United Lutheran Choir overture by the band and songs including It Came Upon the Midnight Clear Angels We Have Heard on High and Holy Night St Ludmila Academy Band and a brief address by Very Rev L P Netardus Santa Claus arrival closes the event.

Community Christmas Tree Planned

At a Chamber of Commerce meeting the annual Tree of Light ceremony was set for next Sunday at 6 p.m. in Welhausen Park beside the band stand. The Waldrop committee includes Mrs Wendtland Jr, Mrs Wagner, Mrs Koether, J C Blohm, E H Willman, O W Dreyer, Benno Holchak, Elo Wolters and A H Kaspar. Santa Claus will give a small gift to children under ten.

Frazer Monroe Wedding in Houston in Simple Ceremony

Miss Willie Hazel Monroe and Mr Claude Frazer wed Friday at 10 30 am in Heiring Memorial Methodist Church Houston witnesses were cousins of the bride Miss Monroe is the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J B Monroe of the city After high school she worked in Dr Donald Ruthven’s Houston dental office for four years Frazer a Georgia native from Rome and Auburn College graduate, was a Canon family guest and a former bridal party member The couple will live on Danville Avenue in Houston after a Dallas honeymoon May they enjoy long happiness and health plus prosperity Other relatives were guests at Rudie Valenta home Sunday.

United Dr Martin Luther Church Advent Services Dedication

The United Dr Martin Luther Church outlines Sunday School at 9 30 a m and Divine Service at 10 30 a m for the third Sunday in Advent with a call to self examination, promising a joyful Christmastide. At 7 30 p m the Dreyer congregation will mark the rebuilt church dedication. A Brotherhood meeting and re organization is set for Tuesday December 19th at 7 30 p m. Rev Richard Schuetze notes last meeting had fine fellowship and urges new members.

Methodist Church Adds Twice Sunday Sermons Schedule

Beginning January the Methodist congregation will have half time in services on Sundays. On the second and fourth Sundays Rev. Dulaney will preach at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., giving the church additional time.

On December 17 the Baptist church holds 11 o clock morning services with Rev Steinhoff preaching the Christmas topic. The 7 p.m. sermon is canceled due to Community Christmas Tree services.

Edward Gehrels Pioneer Citizen Dies in Shiner

Funeral services for Edward W. Gehrels were held at the family home on Wednesday December 6 officiated by Rev Don E Dulaney. Born January 13 1877 at Breslau Lavaca county he lived in Shiner most of his life. Survived by wife Adela Stein two children Elizabeth Nowlin and Edwin Gehrels one grandson Thomas Edward Nowlin and three sisters. The community mourns his sudden passing and honors his long service in business and as Texaco local agent.

Christmas Meeting of Shiner Business Men's Club

The Shiner Business Men's Club will hold its Christmas meeting tonight at 7 o'clock in the high school music studio. The Girls Basket Ball organization will be hostesses and a musical program is planned. This closing meeting of the year is open to all, including ladies.

Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on Monday this year and are among established holidays of Shiner business firms. Stores close Monday December 25 and Monday January 1. Saturday before these holidays there is no opportunity for purchases until Tuesday morning.

Firemen's Annual Ball in Shiner December 31

The Shiner Volunteer Fire Department invites the public to its annual New Year's Eve Ball at Bluecher Park. Schultz's Orchestra will provide music as residents support the firefighters funding drive. A festive year end event draws large crowds to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new.

St. Ludmila P T A Holds December Meeting and Fundraisers

St. Ludmila's P T A gathered in the school library with Mrs. F M Wagner presiding. A Christmas program by grades one to three opened the session, followed by roll call, minutes, and a treasurer's report. Bazaar and cake sale on November 25 netted 29.15, and the play on the 23 brought 40.15. New members were welcomed, including Mesdames Braden, Chandler, Stach Jr, Stulka, Cimohan zel, Roeder, Ondrosek, Tassler Jr, Tassler Sr, Marek, and Dickson Green. The fourth grade won the hand painted prize for most mothers in attendance. Future meetings will award a prize to the room with most mothers. A bill for recreational reading books ordered by Rev. Mother Augustine was paid. The next meeting is January 8, 1934.
