Scout Court of Honor Held at Sulphur Park

Scouts from Moulton Shiner Schulenburg Cuero and Yoakum gathered at Sulphur Park Wednesday night for a Court of Honor. More than a hundred Scouts participated as awards were distributed under the direction of J M Woolsey with Lloyd O Nea l and E C Newman supervising. Parents and friends watched several hundred people attend the solemn ceremony.

Two Cars Collide at Crossing Injures No One Seriously

A 1929 Model A driven by Mrs Aug Colessi and a 35 V-8 driven by Hugo Stoeltje collided Sunday morning near the Valls home. The V-8 overturned onto its top. both drivers escaped serious injury though both cars were badly damaged.

National Cotton Council Organized in Lavaca County

At a Hal lettsville meeting, Lavaca County formed a committee of the National Cotton Council with Herman Blaschke elected chairman. The council aims to boost domestic and foreign consumption of American cotton and cottonseed, with headquarters in Memphis and state units across 850 counties. Members include cotton producers, ginners, merchants, and related firms. The movement notes record cotton surpluses, falling exports, low world prices, and growing substitutes, urging full manpower mobilization. Shiner gunners cooperated in this effort.

A quiet city wedding united George Herder Jr. and Miss Georgie Mae Janssen in Yoakum on August 9 at 7 p m. Witnesses were Mr and Mrs Victor Pulkrabek. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs George F Janssen and a Shiner High School graduate. The groom is the son of Mr and Mrs Walter Herder and described as upstanding. They will live with the groom’s parents.

Loss of infant Julie Marie Pustka in Wied community

Mr and Mrs Mat Pustka Jr lose their baby Julie Marie born early Tuesday morning. The infant died shortly after birth and was buried Tuesday at 3 p.m. in St Marys Cemetery with Father Beck officiating. Pallbearers were Leo and Joe Janak Bernard and Pete Pustka. Besides the parents there are five brothers and one sister surviving. Our sympathy goes to the bereaved family.

Swindall Injured Falling From Pontons Creek Bridge

W. O. Swindall, working on the Pontons Creek bridge on the Shiner Halletsville highway, fell about 25 feet to lumber below yesterday morning. He suffered a broken wrist broken jaw and broken nose and was rushed to Shiner hospital where doctors classified the injuries as painful but not serious.

Soil Conservation District Boundary Hearing Set

A State Soil Conservation meeting in Shiner outlined proposed district boundaries: Colorado River to the north, Peach Creek and Guadalupe River to the west and south, Lavaca County line to the east. Delegations from Schulenburg Yoakum Shiner Mullton Hallettsville attended. A hearing will be held in Schulenburg on Tuesday August 29 at 3 p m for interested parties on the district’s creation.

Golden Jubilee To Be Held At Weimar

Preparations for St. Michaels Jubilee mark the 50th birthday of Weimar parish. Notables are accepting invitations and outlook favors a large attendance. Farmers have donated cotton to be auctioned for the celebration, and a parish souvenir button bearing the church photo is being distributed.
