Cause of Cotton Boll Rot Linked to Leaf Spot

In reply to inquiries, the Texas A&M Agricultural Experiment Station explains that the cotton boll rot is caused by the same organism that causes angular leaf spot. The disease has appeared in several localities with potential for significant losses, as leaf spot can defoliate young plants and later destroy bolls. Seed treatments like Ceresan or sulphuric acid delinting have been used, but field control is being pursued through sprays and dusts in North Texas.
