Petersburg Courthouse Razed Ending Lavaca County History
The old Lavaca County courthouse at Petersburg, once the county seat from 1846 to 1852, is torn down leaving only a granite marker. Petersburg declined after Hallettsville won the seat in 1852, and by 1936 Texas erected a history marker. The remaining structure had served as a home and undergone remodeling before its demolition.
