The faculty of St Ludmila's High School celebrates state accreditation marking years of improvements and rising scholarship. Sister Augustine, head of English, joined two years ago after earning a degree from State Teachers College. The school emphasizes patient effort by the Sisters in achieving recognized status.
The summer school at St Lud mila's High School closed last Friday with about 20 sisters from Incarnate Word Convent attending daily. Fifteen sisters will return this weekend from San Marcos where they studied two months at the State Teacher's College.
Slight shifts in train timings announced for Shiner area. Train 49 from Lockhart to Yoakum now arrives at 11 01 A M. Train 50 from Yoakum to Lockhart arrives at 3 56 P M. Train 51 from Waco to Kenedy arrives at 9 12 P M and Train 52 from Kenedy to Waco arrives at 7 03 A M.

Rev G T Gibbons returns from vacation at Corpus Christi to lead services next Sunday August 25 at 11:00 am and 8:00 pm with Sunday School at 10:00 am. The Gazette notes his revival style and calls the community to attend.

The community is notified of the opening of St. Ludmila's High School on Monday September 16. Parents are urged to ensure all children attend opening day activities and registrations.
A kindly note from R A Mergenthaler requests a year’s subscription to the old home town paper. Reginald, now in Corsicana, serves as Superintendent of the Bureau of Identification for the Corsicana police department, and friends rejoice at his success.
A State Fair of Texas mailer to the editor features a gold stamped leather bill folder marked Press Day State Fair of Texas Oct. 18 1929. It invites the editor to attend the Big Fair in Dallas and notes members of the State Press Association will be lavishly entertained.
Mrs. Hermine Mewes died Saturday at 2 30 PM at her daughter Adele Rabe's home near Shiner after weeks under medical care. Born June 2 1866 in Germany, she emigrated to the U S with her parents, lived in Schulenburg and Shiner, and married Franklin Mewes on March 1 1886 in Flatonia. Survived by 11 children, 6 grandchildren, her husband, three sisters, and three brothers, funeral Sunday at 5 PM from the family residence with burial in City Cemetery. Rev A H Falkenberg conducted services.
The Shiner community is advised that Shiner High School opens on Monday September 9. All children should be prepared and attend as announced by officials.
Mr. Frank Rubin says a new campaign is being arranged and details will appear in the Gazette. Reports indicate the upcoming campaign will be bigger and better than the one closed on July 31, with full announcements to come in the next issue.
Emil Schneider of Moulton traveled to Shiner on Saturday for a business visit, meeting local contacts and assessing opportunities in the area.
Mr and Mrs T T McCommon of Flatonia spent a Sunday with Mrs J C Habermacher, sharing time together in a rural community setting.

The Shiner Gun Club held a Wednesday evening practice shoot. Scores include W W Garbade 49 and daeus acsleale 41, Harry Muecke 22, C J Garbade 19, Beno Holchak 19, Anton Petru 17, W Warnecke 17, Buck Koether 17, Dr Dahlel 17, Edgar Wolters 16, and others with the club listing 18 members and G J Garbade as President.
The Twentieth Century Club announces new titles for August at City Library. Readings include Maypoles and Morals by Frederic Kummer, Dodsworth by Sinclair Lewis, Hide In The Dark by Frances Noyes Hart, Rhinestones by Margaret Widdemer, Young Mrs. Greeley by Booth Tarkington, Kristin Laveansdatler by Sigrid Undset, and Henry The Eighth by Francis Hackett.
The 17th Annual Flatonia Fair opens September 11 for four days with a full premium list and events including Shiner Day Waelder Day Tri County Dairy Day and Carnation City Day. Guadalupe County Fair in Seguin also opens September 11 for five days with 128 page catalogue of reading and racing program.
The P T A met in a called session at City Hall last Friday with officers and many members present. They discussed opening school plans and a faculty reception. Committees were named for entertainment and refreshments. The next regular meeting is Sept 12 at the school auditorium. Reporter.
