Texas Curfew Law Sets Alcohol Rules In Effect Soon

Texas curfew law takes effect Monday August 9 restricting beer and wine sales after midnight on most days with 1am allowance on Saturdays and Sunday restrictions starting after 1pm. Public consumption is banned after midnight except 1:15am on Saturdays with Sunday rules prohibiting consumption before 1pm.

First bale at Dreyer gin sold for 20c a pound

Anton Harbers of Dreyer delivered the first bale of cotton to the Dreyer Gin last Wednesday. The bale was ginned free by Mr. Anton Adamex and was bought by G. H. Mueller for 20 cents per pound.

Mrs Amalie Tampke Dies at 81 in Charlottenburg

Mrs Amalie Tampke, 81, died at her home in Charlottenburg on Saturday August 7 at 1 p.m. Funeral services were held from Eschenburg Funeral Parlor, with a Requiem Mass at the local Catholic Church and burial in the Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include son Fred Foelker, five daughters, seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

C J Monroe marries Miss Alice Virginia Sweeny in a June 26 ceremony at Lago Community Church Aruba N W Col Lewis presents the bride. A reception followed and the couple flies to Curacao for their honeymoon. Monroe, long a Shiner resident, worked four years for Lago Oil and Transport Co Aruba. Help Save 72 000 000 Pounds of Feed in Texas

County Agent G. C. King urges culling 20 percent or more of hens to save about 72 million pounds of feed in two months as feed remains scarce. Confine hens at night and quietly remove weak, diseased, or unproductive birds, including roosters, to provide meat, preserve ration points, and generate cash.

Thomas Husinecky Laid to Rest Sunday

Thomas Husinecky, born December 17 1866 in Czechoslovakia, was laid to rest Sunday after a Requiem High Mass at Shiner Catholic Church. He lived in Lavaca County and left two daughters Mrs Louis Wagner of Cistern and Mrs Jim Patek of Shiner, plus a son Tom who died four years ago, with fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren surviving. The KJT society attended, and casket bearers included Chas Wagner and Chas Patek. The Gazette extends sympathy to the bereaved.

Eightieth Birthday Observed for Mrs. Julia Green

Mrs. Julia Green celebrated her eightieth birthday with an open house at her home last Friday attended by about sixty guests. The event featured red white and blue decor, a centerpiece of carnations, a matching cake, punch and cake, and many well wishes from friends including out of town visitors from Boling Gonzales Beaumont and Houston. Mrs Green, just recovered from pneumonia, remained cheerful and hopeful for the future as friends expressed their wishes for continued happiness.

Floresville Fire Destroys Five Stores Downtown

A Sunday night blaze in Floresville destroyed the J. C. Merchant mercantile store and four neighboring shops on the square, causing about 75000 dollars in damage. San Antonio firefighters led by Chief A R Small and Captain W H Leissner aided by local crews fought the blaze for two hours. The gutted buildings housed a grocery hardware dry goods and meat market. Merchant’s store has stood 26 years and its owner is Floresville’s mayor and First City National Bank president.
