An Open Letter appeals to Commercial Club members and the public to grow Shiner by modernizing farming and business practices. It stresses cooperation, attracting investment, and updating dairying poultry and hog raising, warning that without action competing towns will overtake them as highways arrive.
Last Wednesday's Registered Cow Day drew record crowds for the Merchants Good Will Campaign as poultry hogs dairy and cream sales expand farm income. Judge Lichey oversaw proceedings noting four farmer targets while a Jersey cow valued at 125 was presented to Tom Slovak. Rubins urged farmers to join the Commercial Club next meeting on the first Thursday night in May.
At a Friday midafternoon meeting the Shiner Compress and Warehouse Co. decided to equip their press with a high Density attachment. The move gives the cotton shipper a choice of standard or high density compression, making Shiner one of the best equipped presses in the state. Directors present included V. J. Grunder and Chas. The Shiner Commercial Club invites all local workers and professionals to join and help develop a community program. The call extends to young men and even ladies, with Frank Rubin as president, emphasizing keeping Shiner first.
Notice to farmers that hogs sheep and cattle shipments to Ft Worth will occur Saturday night. All stock must reach Shiner by 4 PM Saturday April 27th. Frank Rubin president of Shiner Commercial Club.
The Methodist Church lists Sunday School at 10 A M, preaching at 11 A M and 7 45 P M next Sunday April 28. A training course for Sunday School teachers runs at Yoakum each evening at 7 30, closing Friday night. Pastor G T Gibbons.
The Texas synod of the United Evangelical Lutheran church in America held its seventy seventh annual convention in Dr Martin Luther church Shiner Texas from April 21 to 24 with Rev J C A Pfennig er as vice president and Rev Martin A Ritzen as president. The gathering opened with holy communion and featured sermons and addresses on church work including Men for the church and winning the boys. There were 18 pastors and 14 congregational delegates plus visiting delegations. The Gazette report closes noting coverage to continue next week.
The Texas Synod comprises nineteen pastoral charges served by nineteen pastors, with one serving in Porto Rico, totaling twenty ordained ministers. It oversees twenty eight congregations, with 5916 baptized, 3848 confirmed, and 3001 communicant members in 1928. Apportionment payments reached 3,511 of an 11,533 budget. total benevolence and expenses were 59,482. Hospital property in Cuero stands at 37,961, with Reuss Memorial at 38,000 valuation and 25,904 in donations to date. Nine Texas missions receive 12,500 annually from the Board of American Missions. plans aim to self-support these congregations within about ten years.
Next Sunday night April 28 at Charlottenburg school a four act comedy drama A Daughter of The Desert will be presented by the P T A An ice cream pie and sandwich supper begins at 6 oclock admission 25 cents and lists The play starts at 730 Everyone is invited.
Beasly School hosts a school program and free dance in Midway Hall next Tuesday night April 30 at 8 PM. Admission is 25 cents for adults while children under 14 are admitted free. Come out for a delightful evening.
Bunjes school trustees announce the reelection of Mrs. Chas. Chovanetz to the eleventh term and Mrs. Alfred Brosch to the fifth term of school board service.
The Little Theatre announces Rio Grande or Love and Hate as the Thursday May 9 production. Cast includes Lucile Schultz Annie Louise Plageman Kathleen Gooden Anita Stratman E Bacon Berckenhoff E A Busch Paul Berckenhoff Emil Kahanek Otto Remmers Joe Zahradnik and Billie Plageman.
Mrs 8 A Thulemeyer presents a public recital by her pupils on Thursday night May 2 at the hall. The community is invited to attend.
H A Dittmarr motored in from Houston over Sunday, traveling to attend scheduled local events and meetings in the city.
Gene Schulze of Austin and Marvin Cordes of San Antonio were home over Sunday, returning to their families after weekend visits.
