United Lutheran Synod Meet in Shiner April 21 24

The Texas Synod of the United Lutheran church will meet in Shiner from April 21 to 24. Services include German and English sermons, a laymen’s meeting, and papers on the topic The men for the Church presented by local leaders. Meeting Plans Dairy Expansion at Commercial Club

Inclement weather reduced turnout at last Friday’s call meeting of the Commercial Club. A vocational instructor was discussed but no action taken. Michna School presents its annual program at Vlastenic Hall on Wednesday night April 24 at 8 o clock. Admission for adults is 25 cents. all children under 14 admitted free. A dance follows the program. Everyone is invited. Ella Stratman will appear as a professor to help you forget your troubles.

Pioneer Shiner resident Christoph Discher dies at 90

Christoph Discher born March 12 1839 in the Province of Posen Germany died April 12 1929 in Shiner Texas at age 90 from a heart attack. He married Otilis Rohmann June 1 1867 in Gnesen Germany and came to America in 1884 settling first at Schulenburg then near Shiner. Survived by children Alfred Albert Paul Freda and 29 grandchildren, a great grandchild, and several daughters in law, with funeral services conducted in German at his home and cemetery rites at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. The community mourns the loss of one of Shiner’s oldest citizens.
