Noted STPA secretary Howell Jones dies after surgery
Howell Jones 68 native of Yoakum dies at home March 9 after major surgery. For 25 years he served as STPA secretary, rallying members and shaping the association. Also remembered for Chamber of Commerce leadership, civic and church work as founder of St. Andrew's Methodist Church. He is survived by wife, son, two daughters.

Three District Court Cases Disposed In Hallettsville
Three cases disposed of Monday morning April 20 in District Court Hallettsville before Judge W W Ellison without a jury. Frank Wayne Hickey received a two year suspended sentence after pleading guilty for breaking or entering a vehicle. Clarence Cross was sentenced to ten years to run concurrently with a sentence he is serving in state penitentiary for entering a Yoakum clinic and taking about 400 dollars. Harold Wayne Valagura got four years for theft over fifty dollars after stealing boots and a rifle from William Borchers hunting camp. State attorneys E W Patteson and A G Schwartz prosecuted all three cases.

Philip Strauch Jr. is named Cuero district manager succeeding J C Dale who has been manager since October 1961. Dale moves to forecast engineer for Southwestern Bell's new Gulf Division in Houston as Claude Matthews announces the change.

Last Rites for Emil A. Koranek
Emil A. Koranek of Moulton died April 15 1964 at Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital Shiner after a tree accident near Moulton. He was 67 with three sons and ten grandchildren surviving. Funeral services were held April 17 at St. Joseph's Church Moulton with burial in the Moulton Catholic Cemetery.

Obituary for Mrs. John Hoepfl of Moulton died April 15 1964 at Trinity Lutheran Home aged 78. Funeral at Buffington Chapel Shiner on April 17 with Requiem Mass at Moulton Catholic Church. Buried in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include three sons and two daughters plus grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Absentee Voting Underway for May 2 Primary
Absentee voting in the May 2 primary is underway with ballots issued to requesting voters. Early voting runs from April 13 to April 28, and in person voting at the County Clerk's office requires a poll tax receipt during 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
Erdelt to Lead VFW and Auxiliary for 1964 65
Shiner VFW Post 6209 and Ladies Auxiliary held their regular meeting on April 9 1964. Election of officers elected for the coming term named Ewald Erdelt as Commander along with a slate including Meyer Dreyer and others. District 24 Commander Henry commended the post for its yearly record and urged similar performance elsewhere.
