Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday April 25. Clocks are pushed ahead one hour by 2:00 a.m. Sunday for millions including Texas residents. DST ends October 31 the last Sunday in October as clocks fall back.

Babe Ruth League Seeks Players Aged 13 to 16 in Shiner

The Babe Ruth League will be part of the Shiner summer program. Players 13 to 16 may join. 16-year-olds may play all positions except pitcher. Submit applications found in the paper and return to Coach Kalich at St. Paul High School or Shiner High School office. Deadline is Saturday May 1.

Shiner Game and Fish League Holds Annual Meeting

The Shiner Game and Fish League will meet Thursday May 6 at Green Dickson Municipal Park for its main fund raiser supporting park improvements. Dues are 3.00 for new members and 1.50 renewal. memberships available at the meeting or from Frankie Kubecka or G. W. Minear. The board of directors governs ten meetings yearly. officers include Victor Patek president Leroy Kloesel vice president and Kenneth Tronicek secretary. Mrs Jeff Davis Laid To Rest At Thompsonville

Funeral services for Mrs. Jeff Davis of Thompsonville were held April 15 at the Thompsonville Methodist Church. Burial followed in Thompsonville Cemetery. She died April 14 in Gonzales at 3:44 am aged 70. She was born Sadie Brown December 12 1900. Survivors include her husband two daughters three sons twelve grandchildren eight great grandchildren and two sisters.

The event featured organ and piano music by Mrs. Velma Gehrels and Mrs. Olga Smothers, an Easter egg basket from Frers Flower Shop, a blessing by Rev. C C Grosenbacher and cake and cinnamon twists with coffee for lunch. The May party is set for Wednesday May 12.

Otto Gloor died April 14 1971 at 12 45 a m in Shiner Hospital at 65 years 2 months 29 days. Funeral services held at United Dr Luther Church with Rev Grosenbacher officiating and flag draped casket borne to Shiner City Cemetery. He was an auto mechanic former Army Air Force tech sergeant and husband of Gussie Mae Gloor. He leaves a wife son Howard and several siblings and relatives. Recent Rains Bring Cheers Across Area

A mild wet cold front brought rainfall across the region Friday April 16 easing a months long drought. Amounts ranged from about a half inch to a little over an inch with Shiner Moulton Hallettsville and Yoakum reporting measurable falls. Early Tuesday morning Shiner saw more rain thunder and lightning about four tenths inch. Turbulent weather including tornado formation followed the rains across Texas but Shiner and nearby areas escaped the worst.
