Shiner Game and Fish League Plans May Meeting

The Shiner Game and Fish League schedules its annual meeting at Green-Dickson Municipal Park on Thursday May 4 with 7:00 p.m. refreshments and an 8:00 p.m. supper. The club aims to provide picnic grounds and fishing, has ordered a roof for the large barbecue pit to aid cooking in rain, and will accept new memberships and renewals at the meeting.

Services Held For John Hustede In Shiner

John Hustede of Shiner aged 84 years and 5 months died April 5 1972 after a lengthy illness. Services were held April 6 at 2 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home Moulton with Rev. Walter Simpson officiating. Burial followed at New Bielau Cemetery near Weimar. Pallbearers included grandsons and local relatives. He was born November 5 1887 in Weimar and survived by two sons three daughters sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His wife Johanna Menis Hustede who died 1938 and son Louis Hustede who died 1961 preceded him.

Live Oak District hosts a flag football day at Shiner High School on April 22 with eight troops from Cuero Yoakum Hallettsville La Grange Shiner. First round pairings include 225 vs 231 and 232 vs 229. Final matches begin at 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Funeral services held April for Frank A. Nevlud

Frank A. Nevlud age 81 of Route 4 Hallettsville died April 10 1972 after a short illness at De Tar Hospital Victoria. Rosary was recited and a requiem Mass at St Marys Church Hallettsville with interment in St Marys Catholic Cemetery. He was born December 21 1890 in Czechoslovakia and survived by two sons, two daughters in law, a brother and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Paul L. Surovec nee Mary Mikes of Houston died April 14 1972 in Pasadena after a lengthy illness at 71 years 9 months and 12 days. Rosary and Requiem Mass were held in Shiner with burial at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include six children eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Lutheran Synod Meets in Houston With 300 Delegates

Two laymen from United Dr. Martin Luther Church Shiner and Rev C C Grosenbacher join over three hundred delegates at the Eleventh Convention of the Texas Louisiana Synod of the Lutheran Church in America in Houston April 21 23 Salem Lutheran Church 4930 W Bellfort hosts the gathering Rev Dr Robert J Marshall president of the national church will lead services and Dr Walter Wolbrecht will address delegates on Christian conscience with talks on women's liberation in the church and Vietnam and world peace. The third annual Shiner Clipper Amateur Baseball Tournament moves into its final stages this weekend April 22 23. Consolation games feature Moulton Rockets vs Shiner Clippers and Schulenburg Lone Star vs Weimar Vets Saturday April 22 with La Grange Drug Demons vs Flatonia Sunday April 23.
