Clocks move ahead one hour on Sunday April 30 affecting millions including Texas residents. People should set clocks forward by 2:00 a.m. Sunday to align with the time change and DST ends October 29, the last Sunday in October.
GVEC secures a 1 million dollar loan approved April 14. 80 percent funded by REA and 20 percent by CFC to build 68 miles of power lines, extend service to about 1100 members, and upgrade existing distribution lines. General Manager Milton D. Hines credits REA and CFC for support and cooperation.
The Rhodes Kids of Houston bring a family teen dance group to Hallettsville American Legion Hall on Friday May 5 at 8 pm. Admission is 2.00 in advance 2.50 at the door with tickets from the Tribune Herald office. Proceeds benefit Hallettsville schools and the show features the family group ages 7 to 19 with prior TV and Disneyland appearances.
A covered dish dinner will be held Sunday April 30 at 6 30 pm to honor new members of the First United Methodist Church Shiner. Bring one dish or come empty handed if you don t cook. Wear comfortable attire for a night of conversation bridge or volley ball in Fellowship Hall.
Game and Fish League releases 150 channel catfish, about 134 pounds total, in two pools behind the dams. An additional 150 small catfish are released in the rearing pond and will be fed until they reach 1% pounds or larger. The annual meeting is Thursday May 4 at Green Dickson Municipal Park with refreshments at 7 and supper at 8. New memberships and renewals available at the meeting.
Victor Anton Pollak of Shiner Texas died April 19 1972 at Shiner Hospital aged 61 years 4 months and 11 days. He worked 37 years at Spoetzl Brewery and never married. Burial followed Requiem Mass at Shiner Catholic Cemetery with pallbearers Eddie Jaks Arnold Mueller Aug H Maneth Frank Steiner Gus Kovalcik and Alton Pohler. He is survived by his sister Evelyn Reindl and niece Jeanette Baker II of Houston.
The CDA Sunshine Party for the aged and shut ins in Shiner will be held Wednesday May 3 1972 at 2 00 p m in the Parish Gym. Entertainment and refreshments will be provided. Call Mrs Agnes Sedlmeyer at 594 3340 for information. Transportation will be provided.
Donations of grocery items are being accepted for prizes at the July 2 Hospital Day Benefit. Needed are 5 pounds of sugar 3 pounds of shortening 1 pound of coffee and a regular size of detergent. Drop off at Welhausen Foodcraft Patek Grocery and Market or Ray's Grocery and Market.
The SLA St Paul Band Club sponsors a kettle fried chicken supper Sunday April 30 in the Catholic Parish Gym at 6 p.m. A band concert follows at 8 p.m. Advance tickets cost 1.50 for adults and 1.00 for children under 12, available from Mrs Dan Kresta at the First National Bank or any band member.
Charles W Schroeder aged 90 years 10 months 12 days died April 12 1972 at Colonial Nursing Home Schulenburg. Funeral April 14 at Schwenke Baumgarten Chapel officiated by Rev Walter Simpson with burial at Old Kinkler Cemetery. Survivors include daughter Nita Muhlstein and sons Ervin Carl Wilbert Benny plus many relatives. numerous grandchildren and great grand children.
H R Lloyd, longtime South western Bell supervisor, is named manager for the company in the Edinburg region succeeding Hugo Geck who moves to Austin. Lloyd will oversee commercial operations in Cuero Flatonia Halletts ville Moulton Nordheim Shiner Yoakum and Yorktown while his wife Melanie and two children Angela and Dustin stay in Texas. Dennis Kutach killed a coral snake in his Shiner yard reporting a 25 inch serpent prompting a caution to outdoors enthusiasts amid recent reptile sightings.
Emil P Kloesel Sr aged 55 years 7 months 19 days died April 25 1972 in Shiner Hospital. He lay in state until 9:00 a.m. Thursday then moved to Shiner Catholic Church for Requiem Mass with military services. Rosary at Buffington Chapel April 26 at 7 30 p.m. Interment in Shiner Catholic Cemetery.
William B. Stroman of Seguin died April 15 1972 at 81. Funeral services were held April 17 at Faith Lutheran Church Seguin with multiple clergy officiating. Interment in Monthalitala Lutheran Cemetery. Survivors include wife Annie, daughter Helen Drake three sons and nine grandchildren.

Shiner High School riders Mark Wenske earned third grade honorable mention in the state poster contest. Local Guadalupe Firemen’s Association results list Mark Wenske first in third grade, Patrick Seidenberger second, and Shirley Hundl third. Mildred Winkenwerder first in sophomore, Susan Noack second, and Gilbert Horecka third in junior.
Shiner ISD and Miss Zapalac lead a student centered Drug and Crime Education effort that will feature a Drug Carnival with games and prizes donated by local merchants. Region III Education Service Center commends the program and asks for community donations.

A Social Security Office representative from Victoria will be at Shiner City Hall at 9 am Monday May 1 to help residents file retirement survivor's disability or Medicare claims and answer questions about the program.
The Shiner Clippers host Cuero at Green-Dickson Municipal Park at 8:00 p.m. Saturday April 29. Sunday they meet Wharton away for the first league game at 3:00 p.m. Clippr practice is set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the ball park.
Texas sportsmen and landowners may attend May hearings statewide on proposed 1972 73 game and fish law changes. Executive Director James A. Cross urges participation to shape reasonable laws benefiting sportsmen and wildlife resources. Lavaca County hearing is May 3 at 10 a.m. in Hallettsville County Courthouse.
Florence Thomas 64 died April 17 1972 in Santa Monica California. Funeral services were held April 21 at 2 30 p m at New Jerusalem Baptist Church Shiner with burial at Blue Bonnet Hill Cemetery. Interment was by Jamison Funeral Home Yoakum. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers named. Surviving family includes two daughters four sons and several siblings.
Isabel Elvera Wendtland Thulemeyer born June 17 1879 in Haw Creek Texas came to Shiner in 1889 and taught piano for 60 years retiring 1966. She helped lead civic and church work as a charter member of the Ladies Aid Society and directed a school orchestra.
The Alamo Area Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association announces a Mobile X Ray Unit will tour Lavaca County for three days. Yoakum on Thursday at City Warehouse 11 am to 1 pm and 2 to 6 pm. Shiner Friday at American Legion Hall same hours. Hallettsville Saturday at City Hall 10 am to 1 pm and 2 to 5 pm. Donations of 1 dollar per x ray encouraged.
