Services Held For Mrs. C Chumchal

Funeral services for Mrs. Rudolph Chumchal nee Carrie Roznovsky of Shiner were held at Sts Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church with Requiem Mass. Burial followed in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Surviving are four daughters, three sons, two sisters, two brothers, 25 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Two long time friends and roommates Mrs Rose Gebauer 92 and Mrs Frances Zatopek 80 died within two hours at Shady Oak Nursing Home Moulton March 26 1972 Funeral services were held March 28 at St Josephs Catholic Church in Moulton and pallbearers included grandsons and relatives The obituary notes their long lives and family survivors with details of births marriages and residences in Lavaca County Texas.

Roy Hanzel Dies Easter Sunday in Victoria

Roy Jim Hanzel of Shiner aged 40 years 11 months 26 days died at 10:00 a.m. Easter Sunday April 2 1972 at Citizens Memorial Hospital Victoria after three weeks as a patient. An auto-diesel mechanic he had been disabled ten years. Services were held April 4 at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel Shiner with Rev. Clifford Grosenbacher officiating. Burial in Witting Cemetery. Survivors include wife Joyce three sons Roy Emery James Edward and David Everett his parents Jim V and Anna S Hanzel of Shiner two sisters Geneva Hanzel and Alice Czichos of Moulton two brothers Alvester G Hanzel and Leslie Hanzel of Wied. An infant brother Victor Clarence Hanzel preceded him.

Shiner Clipper Baseball Tourney Schedule Released

The third annual Shiner Clipper Tournament will be held at Green-Dickson Municipal Park in Shiner over April 15 16 and April 22 23. Eight teams compete with games at 6 00 p m 8 15 p m and 1 00 p m 3 00 p m times. Admission to each day is 50 cents with children 8th grade and under free.

Shiner Bids Adieu To Last Cotton Gin

The Buske Gin is dismantled marking the end of Shiner’s cotton ginning era. For nearly a century the town hosted gins, a compress, an oil mill and a co op gin, shaping its growth as cotton fell from kingship. Gene Vincik Jr. killed a large rattlesnake on the Bill Polasek place in the Dreyer section, the reptile over three feet with a 12 rattles display.

30 Days Residency Required To Vote

The Supreme Court decision Dunn v. Blumstein struck down residency rules longer than 30 days for voting eligibility. Whatley v. Bullock enjoined Texas law as of March 31, 1972. Residents may vote after 30 days in state and locality and registration periods apply. The April 5 1972 deadline governs the May 6 primary registration cutoff.

Pickup And Car Wreck At Midway

A 1969 Oldsmobile coach driven by Mrs. Sadie Lee Applewhite of Shiner and a 1955 Chevrolet pickup driven by Henry Grossman Jr. of Rt. 2 Yoakum collided at the intersection of Highway 95 and FM 958 south of Shiner. Applewhite was hospitalized for minor injuries after the 4:50 p.m. crash reported by the Highway Patrol.

Mrs. Sophie Peterek Vrazel 77 died April 7 1972 at Shiner Hospital from injuries after being struck by a 1956 Chevrolet Station Wagon driven by Lester Ullmann in front of Dan and Ernie’s Cafe on Highway 90 A. Little League Teams Picked After April Meeting

Boys aged 8 to 12 may sign up Thursday night at the Little League Diamond. Split teams win 62 to 35, with 8 and 9 year olds forming one group and 10 to 12 in separate practice and game rosters. Insurance coverage is 3500 for medical and 3500 for life or limb, with a 2.00 season fee due that night.

Edwin Huber Killed Crossing El Campo Highway

Edwin Otto Huber of Shiner was struck and killed by a northbound car on Highway 71 in El Campo on Easter Sunday April 2 1972 at 7 17 p m He was pronounced dead at the scene and no charges were filed His body lay in state at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel before services April 5 in Shiner His death marks El Campo 1972s first traffic fatality and survivors include his wife five brothers and many nieces and nephews.
