Shiner Debaters Win District Meet Honors

Coach Wright and students Dorothy Jean Blohm and Geneva Seims led Shiner to the District Championship in Debate. Dorothy Jean captured first in Ready Writing, while Erwin Liebhafsky took third in Junior boys declamation. The squad also earned four firsts in Latin at the District and other honors, reflecting strong academic and competitive performance.

Michna School Elects New Principal for 1935 36 Term

Charlottenburg School reelected Principal A E Tampke for the 1935 36 term with Mrs Tampke as assistant and Arthur Ward as the third teacher. Trustees held a patrons meeting last week where patrons endorsed all three teachers by a wide majority.

Monroe Menke Upholds Bunjes Spelling Fame

The Gazette reports Monroe Menke a Bunjes senior speller received a perfect 100 percent on his state spelling paper from the State Inter scholastic League in Austin. Bunjes students again win multiple 100 percent certificates and take first in three county spelling divisions while Breslau and Charlottenburg case follow with final scores 87 to 80 to 78.

Decoration Day Services Largely Attended

One of the largest crowds ever attended the annual decoration day exercises Sunday. The program by Kolar Stanek Post drew favorable comments with master of ceremonies Chas Cho vanetz. Music by Julius Schultz’s band and Mrs. L. E. Denmark’s choir were well received. Rev Wolfsdorf gave a German appeal. J C Jones, former Post Commander, spoke for Kolar Stanek Post to applause. Flowers were abundant as the Silent City appeared very beautiful.

Death of F W Maelschen in San Antonio at 71

Frederick William Maelschen died at his home in San Antonio on Wednesday morning April 10, aged 71 years and 2 days. Funeral services were held at Floresville cemetery at 4 30 p m Thursday. He will be remembered by many old friends in this section where he lived before moving to Floresville.

Death of Mrs. Wm Fechner in Taylor noted

Mrs. Wm Fechner formerly Miss Tinnie Lieck died at her Taylor home. Funeral services were held in Flatonia. She leaves husband two brothers John and Henry of San Antonio and three sisters Mrs. Robert Meyer of Waco Mrs. Annie De Witt of Johnson City Tenn and Mrs. W L Burton of Yoakum. Miss Tinnie once taught in Shiner and was a noted teacher.

Local School Board Reorganizes with New and Returning Trustees

At the regular meeting Monday night two new trustees Wm Jaroszewski and W Tieken qualified along with H G Hollman who was re elected. Peter Kuhn was re elected President Wm Jaroszewski Vice President and H G Hollman re elected Secretary. The board favored installing Home Economics and voted to observe Good Friday as a holiday.
