Monsignor Netardus Elevated by Papal Investiture

The Very Rev Dean L P Netardus received notice of his appointment to the rank and title of Monsignor, becoming the Bishop's Consultant and a member of the Papal Court. The investiture is planned for June at St Cyril and Methodius Church in Shiner with parishioners in attendance. Born in Moravia in 1866, he has served various Texas parishes including Hallettsville Praha and Shiner, dedicating decades of ministry.

Local Tornado Relief Appeals Near Eagle Pass

Contributions for destitute, injured and homeless created by the April 4 tornado near Eagle Pass will be received at the office of J. M. Canon. Mrs Elo Wolters, local Red Cross Chairman, received a wire asking for aid immediately. Mostly white people from drought areas who came to the irrigated section lost clothing, goods, homes and crops. Hope for generous response.

Lightning Strikes Hatchery Incubators Leave Losses

A late March lightning strike near Shiner Hatchery jolted inside workers W L Henkhaus and a salesman, knocked fuses, and paralyzed baby chicks in 4600 incubators. Henkhaus blamed high costs but praised his mother and colleague for escaping serious harm as Monday’s hatch loomed with uncertainty.

The United Dr Martin Luther Church schedules German language Divine Services at 10:00 a.m. with Sunday School at 9:00 a.m. An English Maundy Thursday service with Holy Supper is at 7:30 p.m. Good Friday German service is at 10:00 a.m. Easter Day includes 9:00 a.m. Sunday School and 10:00 a.m. Divine Service in German followed by the Holy Eucharist. Elected Trustees Named in Shiner ISD Race

In the Shiner Independent School District election 242 votes were cast. Four candidates ran for three seats: W Jaroszewski 174 votes, W Tieken 152 votes, H G Hollman 172 votes, Ernest Hajek 136 votes, with Dr A A Darilek receiving 3 complimentary votes. Hollman was the only incumbent seeking re election, joining Jaroszewski and Tieken on the board.

St Ludmila P T A Meets. pupils perform

The regular meeting of St. Ludmila's P T A was held in the Academy library with Mrs. Joe Michna presiding. A program by first grade pupils under Sister Sydonia was presented. The class play directed by Miss Ella Stratman will be given. A school fair and exhibit is set for Sunday May 5 in the Academy and Campus, with lunch music and other features. Adjournment to May 6.
