The Senior class of Shiner High School will present their program on Friday April 18 at 8 o clock in the Auditorium Gymnasium. The performance is expected to be interesting and the general public is invited to attend.
The Gazette presents the financial statements of the City of Shiner and the First National Bank in this issue and urges readers to review them.
Members of the Garden Club will meet Friday at 3 p m with Mrs E G Buske for an afternoon session and discussion of garden projects.
Mrs Ralph Conselyea of Houston will lecture on flower arrangement Friday at 2 30 PM in the Flatonia High School auditorium. All interested invited. No admission. Refreshments served.
The baby son of Mr. and Mrs. Elton Zander received holy baptism on Good Friday April 11 at the Czech Moravian Brethren Church. Rev J Barton of Granger performed the ceremony and the child was named Arlen Ray. Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs Edwin Zimmermann.
We express sincere gratitude to friends neighbors and Dr Boyle for kindness and sympathy at the death of our mother and grandmother Mrs Alvine Neumann. Special thanks to Rev A Dene for his work to those grandchildren.

Shiner High School will be heard on KVIC Victoria next Sunday April 20 from 4 to 4 30 p m. Listeners are invited to tune in and hear the program.
Eighty University of Texas pharmacy students depart Austin by special train for a six day inspection trip to midwest plants. Led by Miss Edith Wolters of Shiner and professor L W Schleuse the group visits Eli Lilly in Indianapolis Upjohn in Kalamazoo and tours Chicago for educational exposure to large scale drug production.
The Oakhill Cemetery Association of Flatonia will observe Decoration Day Sunday April 20 at 2 p.m. at the cemetery.
Following the death of Senator Morris Sheppard, Texas must hold a special election to fill his United States Senate seat. Governor O'Daniels must order the election within ten days, with voting to occur between 60 and 90 days after the vacancy. If Congress is in session, a temporary appointee will serve until a successor is elected and qualified. Primary elections may be held, likely not, and the winner will serve the unexpired term.
Lonnie Stephens and Edward Thompson, both residents of San Antonio, are to be tried here Monday on charges of swindling. They allegedly solicited money under false pretenses. Richter identified the parties here. Thompson posted bond while a bond for Sager Stea was noted in county records.
The Shiner Brewers captured their second league win at La Grange on Sunday April 13 led by Ernest Baker who struck out 16 in nine innings. Home runs by Baker and Red Calhoun spurred a 4 0 victory and a key double play Michalec to Marcak limited La Grange to ten hits with no errors. The Brewers face the Weimar Wildcats at 3 30 p m with Polach likely to start for Weimar and Agricola or Baker for Shiner.
Lavaca County farmers will vote on Saturday April 26 in a county referendum to decide whether to market their 1941 peanut crop under marketing quotas The referendum follows an action by Secretary Wickard to proclaim quotas after Congress amended the Agricultural Adjustment Act The national quota ties to 1 610 000 acres and quotas apply to mechanically harvested peanuts only If approved two thirds must vote yes and quotas would last three years A loan or diversion program would be available with a 50 to 75 percent parity rate regardless of approval outcomes and 1940 production data are cited for context
Someone entered the west of town household of Chas. Ermis Sunday night and stole the spare tire. A wheel was removed from the car and the thieves departed with parts unknown. The jack and a handkerchief were left as the only clues.

Dr. and Mrs. Leon C. Kopecky of San Antonio spent last weekend with relatives and friends in town. Dr Kopecky, who has worked at M. and S. Hospital for seven years, will depart Saturday for Boston to attend a meeting of the American College of Physicians.
All those interested in playing softball are asked to be present at a meeting Thursday night April 17 at 7 p m at City Hall.
A letter from Bundles for Britain Inc. Shiner Texas thanks the chapter for two boxes of flannelette garments used men and women’s clothing and some suits. It praises Shiner’s enthusiasm and cooperation and urges continued sewing group meetings at the old City Hall every Monday at 2 pm.
The Senior Class of St Lud mila's Academy presents a comedy rich production in the Gymnasium Auditorium on Thursday evening April 24 at 7 30 p m. The class promises a smooth professional performance and an enjoyable show from start to finish.
St Ludmila’s Academy lists honor roll students across grades one through eleven. Names include Elo Huser, Helen Veit, Marvin Adamek, and many peers across grades, with numerous surnames reflecting a large student cohort.
The St Ludmila P T A held its April meeting marking the organization's 10th anniversary. An Open House is set for May 25 with student work displays, embroidery for sale, a luncheon, and music. Officers approved bills totaling 12.69 for school supplies embroidery and posters. Seventh graders entertained with songs and talks on corn.
The Bannert family thanks all who eased their sorrow after the death of their son and brother Eddie Lee. Special thanks to Drs Williams and Boyle Reverend Schuetze the grave-diggers the choir and all who sent flowers. May God bless you all.
A large audience from Shiner and nearby towns gathered at Shiner City Cemetery on Easter Sunday for Decoration Day services. Lutheran choir songs, Rev. L. A. McDaniel address, and prayers framed the program, with numerous attendees from Corpus Christi to Gonzales listed as visitors.
The Cemetery Association expresses thanks to all who assisted with the program at the Declaration services Sunday. Seventeen dollars was collected at the gate.
E R Meitzen becomes publisher of the Yoakum Times after a deal closed last week. He founded and led the Hallettsville New Era for ten years, then ran newspapers in Florida for 15 years. J J Sedlmeyer, former Fla tonia Argus owner and former Times manager, joins the Cuero Standard staff under W F Kautz ownership.

A family expresses heartfelt gratitude for the kindness shown after the death of their son and brother Woodrow Burkett. They thank Rev Harris, the choir, the local Post American Legion, and all who attended the funeral, asking God to richly reward every helper.

The secretary was asked to invite Scoutmaster Pency Garbade and Band Director Cammack to the next meeting.

Eddie Lee Bannert died at 1 month and 13 days old on Thursday April 10. The funeral was held Friday at 2 p.m. from Eschenburg Funeral Parlor with Rev. Schuetze officiating. Interment in Shiner City Cemetery. Survived by parents, three sisters, one brother, and grandparents.
The Leazer family expresses deep gratitude to Shiner friends for flowers and expressions of sympathy after the death of Dollie Marie Leazer. Mrs. Leona Leazer and children say they will never forget the kindness shown in their time of sorrow.
The Parent-Teacher Association of Shiner Public School held its regular meeting in the sixth grade room on April 10. Bills totaling 3090 were ordered paid. Due to space constraints in the building, plans were discussed for upcoming cap and gown costs and related preparations.
