Catholic Holy Week Services Schedule and Rites

The Holy Week program lists German and English devotions on Wednesday, divine services on Thursday and Friday, and Holy Saturday ceremonies at 6 30 a m with the resurrection mass at 5 p m. Sunday masses at 6 30 8 and 9 30 with a rectory to church procession before the last rite. Collectors support missionaries and the diocesan seminary and orphanage. Methodist Church Easter Services and Activities

The local Methodist Church will observe Easter Sunday with morning and night services focusing on the meaning of the resurrection. Woodrow Burkett born February 17 1914 in Shiner died at 27 1 20. He worked at Shiner Brewery before enlisting in the Army November 1. Funeral with military honors held Wednesday at 3 pm from the family home Rev R Harris officiated with American Legion post service and color guards. Survivors include his parents three brothers two sisters and many friends.

The Shiner Chamber of Commerce approves a $1000 loan to the Shiner Independent School District to start a high school band with instruments and uniforms. The loan is to be repaid at $200 yearly for five years with no interest, under a gentlemen’s agreement between the Chamber and school board.

Shiner erupted for nine runs in the second inning to defeat Schulenburg 14 to 3 on Schulenburg’s field. Red Calhoun had four hits in six at bats, Burrell Fishner and Robinson contributed big hits, and Shiner pitcher Leroy Hutler allowed five hits in eight innings with seven strikeouts.
