A head on collision on the western outskirts Monday evening involved Chas Malina and his wife en route to town and Mitchel Harper colored. All three were hospitalized with injuries. Malina had a broken leg and remained in hospital while Mrs Malina was treated and released. Harper had a broken arm and was released Tuesday. Both cars were badly damaged.
Next Saturday, April 5, is school trustee election day. Incumbents Dr A A Darilek Waldemar Tiken and H G Hohlmann seek re election as terms expire.
The Green School will hold a trustee election on Saturday April 5 from 1 to 7 pm. One trustee is to be elected.
St Ludmila's Parent Teacher Association schedules its regular meeting for Monday April 7 inviting all members to attend. President Mrs Joe Michna will preside.
Gene Autry and Jane Withers star in Shooting High at the Palace Theatre this Friday and Saturday. The western musical comedy features singing and comedy as fans flock to the show.

The South Central Texas League opens April 6 with four games as Marshall Holloway announces the eight-town circuit schedule. The slate lists matchups each week through August, including Schulenburg, Shiner, La Grange, Weimar, Yoakum, Gonzales, Hallettsville, Luling, and Prairie Lea in rotating hosts.
The trial of Max Brocker, opened in District Court Monday morning, was continued until the next term of court. He is charged with the fatal stabbing of Frank Janus at a Sublime dance hall on Oct. 19.
Mrs Glade Welhausen was operated on at the local hospital Wednesday morning. She is resting comfortably and her many friends wish her a speedy recovery. Her mother Mrs Lillie Donohue arrived from Houston to be at her bedside.
Appreciation was presented to the P T A school board the chamber of commerce and the Business Men's Club for supporting continued work with summer programs. Mr Auld expressed hope a native band will be formed by next year with ongoing community backing.
The season opener at Welhausen on Friday March 28 saw the Comanches fall to the Apaches by 5 to 4. Shiner batteries were De Harde Agricola and Sauer. Seniors continue rehearsals and prepare for April 18 when "Bashful Bobby" will be shown.

Holchak on a charity baseball game for Bundles for Britain were heard, plus an engineer guest detailed paving costs under WPA versus contract, noting a $100,000 to $200,000 saving and 5 percent funding slack due to weather.

On Saturday April 5th rural county examinations for seventh grade will be conducted in Hallesville Shiner and Moulton. Students from local rural schools meet at Shiner High School. Subjects include English Arithmetic Physiology History Spelling Civics Geography Agriculture with scheduled times.

The Board of Trustees of Shiner Independent School District orders a school trustee election to be held April 5 1941 at the New City Hall Shiner. Three trustees will be elected. Mr and Mrs C G Gosch of Muldoon mourn the loss of their infant daughter Ruby Katherine born March 28 at Wagner’s Hospital and died March 30. Funeral service and interment were conducted by Eschenburg Funeral Parlor with procession from Shiner to Muldoon Cemetery. Surviving parents are joined by grandparents Mr and Mrs J A Gosch and Mr and Mrs G J Parker of Flatonia.

Louis Roeder Jr of Lavaca County is notified by County Agent G C King that he won standard bred chicks in the district poultry raising contest. Devis Hester of district 4 won the state contest. Louis also receives the Wilson Meat Animal Award Medal as Lavaca County 4-H Livestock Champion for 1940.
The Leans beat the Fats of Shiner 11 to 8 at Welhausen Diamond in a Bundles for Britain fundraiser. It ended a long run of Fats victories, and the event raised 27.55 dollars for the club treasury as players noted aging in the crowd.
The Fat and Lean Baseball game raised 27.55 for the Bundles for Britain organization. After 13.06 was spent on materials, 14.49 remains in the treasury, enough for about two bolts of material and roughly two weeks of work. Donors are urged to contribute today to support the war effort.
Low income cotton farmers in Lavaca county stand to gain from the Supplementary Cotton Program. Chairman O. E. Hermes says reducing cotton acreage not only cuts surplus but boosts home production of food and supplies. Payments include 10 cents per pound for reduced yield, with caps of 25 or 50 dollars depending on farm setups, plus a 3 dollar incentive for storage and home use.

NEW BABIES Mr and Mrs Perry Harbers welcomed a baby girl named Joyce Jean born Friday. Mr and Mrs Jim Fikac have a baby boy named Ernest Victus born on 1. A girl Monica Rose was born to Mr and Mrs Anton Hinch of Moravia at the local hospital on Monday. Mrs M M Wagner in San Antonio at the bedside of her sister Mrs C B Plummer who is seriously ill but improved. Mrs Wagner donated blood for transfusions. The baby boy born to Mr and Mrs C B Hinch was baptized at St Ann’s Church San Antonio as Martin Edwin with Dr and Mrs M M Wagn es as sponsors.
Dr Edward Micek of Texas University spoke to a large Sunday audience on European Conditions. The lecture was well received and about forty dollars was raised.
A spring Flower Show will be held at the Witte Museum in San Antonio on Saturday April 5 and Sunday April 6 1941. Doors open 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday. The Flower Show Association formed by seven Garden Clubs showcases roses bulbs lilies iris vines and flowering shrubs with decorative competitions including pitcher arrangements and garden foliage plants.
