Women will register for the first time, listing their ages, separate from military registration. Special secretaries oversee sessions.

May Sets Rainfall and Cold Records for 1887 Season
May was the coldest since official records began in 1887 with 4.89 inches of rainfall about an inch above normal. Frosts lingered to May 14 and freezing temperatures to May 10. The month was unusually wet and cool with several damaging windstorms, prompting extra efforts to plant and grow more crops.

Tipton County’s Oldest Woman Mrs Pursley Dies at 103
Mrs. Sarah Pursley, reputed Tipton county’s oldest woman, died Tuesday at her daughter Mrs J H Straley’s home seven miles north of Sheridan. Born February 2 1817 she was over a century old. Her husband died forty years ago and she had one child. A sister lived to ninety. Funeral Thursday with burial at East Union cemetery near Ekin.

Domestic Science Teacher to Lead Sheridan High Classes

Record Sale Of Dairy Cattle In Community
A Jersey bull owned by Mrs. M A Covode sold to Curt Thornton of Tuscola Illinois for 250 dollars. The dam is owned by Mr Hill of Cleveland Ohio and produced 550 pounds of butter as a two year old. Covode bought the bull at the Dairy Picnic in August 1915 for 69 dollars. She also owns state record Jersey cows including a cow yielding 8234.9 pounds milk and 606.62 pounds butter and another cow producing 10088.6 pounds milk and 620.04 pounds butter.

The Farmers National Bank of Sheridan leads local Liberty Loan bids with a $10 000 application though Hamilton county trails its quota. Local resident Louis Boyer lost three sons who joined the Canadian army. A Sheridan youth Clarence Williams is jailed in Indianapolis for failure to register. Field Hospital No 2 under Maj L D Carter and Ambulance Co No 1 of Frankfort passed through on a train bound for Ft Ben jamin Harrison carrying wagons horses and men. Two coach loads of Jackies from Chicago naval station joined the train eastbound. Dr E M Young, Sheridan physician, has joined the Army Medical Service with a five year commitment and awaits mobilization. Dr H B Cox of Morristown is ordered to report at Ft Benjamin Harrison as a First Lieutenant in the Officers Reserve Medical Corps.
