Erin Merchant Dies of Influenza in Tipton County
A. L. Joyce of Erin died Saturday from influenza after a brief illness while living with Clay Burton. Born March 31, 1879 in Vevay, Switzerland County, he taught in the county before moving to Tipton nine years ago. He built a store at Ekin, ran mercantile business, served as notary, and held community roles. He was a Mason Red Man and Pocahontas. Survived by father John Joyce and brother Carl Joyce of Vevay. Funeral at Clay Burton home, burial East Union. He was to marry Ella Fox the prior Wednesday and left a will Friday morning. Owned farm east of Ekin and various stocks and properties.
