Life Span of a Pioneer Hamlet in Summerton Michigan
A retrospective tale recounts Joseph O Hara and Elizabeth McHenry’s 1832 emigration to the U S and the 1844 birth of son Joseph Warren O Hara who became a doctor and founded the Summerton store in 1879. The narrative traces the town’s growth around the store, mail route, and Irish Town parish, the railroad move, notable residents, and the eventual decline as rural changes reshaped the area.
