Eighty voters cast ballots in Shepherd's Village with George Grim edging Harold Lantz by one vote for Village President. Incumbent Gerald Cook and Doug Sharrer each had 29, Sylvester Kunik 30, Elton Miller led as Village Assessor with 69. Helen Hummel won Village Clerk 52 to 28, Gertrude Rosselti Treasurer 51, Laverne Philo led Trustees with 64, Albert Weaver 42, Ray Zimmerman 0.

First Aid Class Attracts Seventeen Members
The Joe Alsh Auxiliary 8215 sponsors a First Aid Class with seventeen members planning to participate. The initial session was held at the VFW Hall on Monday night. Four more sessions will follow on the next four Mondays. Attending four sessions earns the certificate. Robert Garber Jr. teaches the class starting 7 30 p m for two hours. Mrs Don Gimmey handles arrangements.

Secretary of State James M. Hare reports January sales and use tax totals rising. Sales tax processed 72,248 transactions totaling 5,278,593.80, up 378,373.33 from January 1963. Use tax transactions reached 31,844 for 646,566.30, up 46,459.77 from a year earlier.

Elma Mae John later Mrs. John Whiting of Route 4 Mt. Pleasant earns National 4 H Alumni Recognition for community service leadership and field success. She began in the 1950s with a conservation project and expanded to clothing food preservation gardening and dairy. She earned BS and Master's in Elementary Education and taught in Alma Mesa Albion and Midland Schools working with exceptional children.

Walt Dean Re elected Head of Syrup Festival Committee
The Maple Syrup Festival Committee held its annual meeting on Tuesday March 3 electing officers for 1964. Walt Dean was re elected as chairman and the festival date set for April 18 the third Saturday. Irene Doepker stepped down as vice chair with Louise Travis named as new vice chairman. A St Louis Old Car Club exhibit will join pancake day from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM and a dance will be held at the IOOF Hall.
