Happy New Year Champion Bull Shooter Ceremony
In Shepherd Isabella County trooper Jacob Russell of Mt. Pleasant Post received a plaque and bulls tail with the title Champion Bull Shooter of 1963. The award stems from a December 3 incident when a bull escaped into a swamp after a failed 22 caliber shot from owner Don Oswald near the Shepherd slaughter house. Russell dispatched the bull with a higher powered rifle.

Members of the Joe Alsh Auxiliary 8215 V F W with the Post visited Cottage II at the Michigan State Home and Training School in Mt. Pleasant on December 23. They toured the tumbling team and were entertained, then played harmonica numbers. Refreshments followed with ice cream cake punch and candy on a Christmas decorated table. Mrs Brown presented two card tables and chaired the event with her committee. Mr and Mrs Spence welcomed guests and Mrs Spence, a former Shepherd resident, was noted as Claire Darling.
