Paul Warmbrunn announced that Shepherd Public Schools will begin their Fall Term on September 8. New students may register at the principal's office August 18 and books for grades 7 through 12 will be issued August 31 and September 1.
The Joe Ulsh Post 8215 VFW opens its 1965 membership drive with Robert Guyer as the first new member. Chairman Elton Grace sets a 100 member goal by December 1, 1964, noting growth from 70 in 1965 and 87 in 1964. The Post aims for 100% paid up in District 11 and adopts the motto Look Alive in Sixty five.
A challenge seeks a Sunday game on August 23 between players under 35 led by Ray Zimmerman and a veteran squad managed by Sal Kunik. Both sides aim to prove youth or experience, with meetings at Doepker’s Service Station for interested players.
The Isabella County Fair opens on Tuesday August 25 and runs through Saturday August 29 with a heavy entertainment lineup. The schedule outlines daily activities and a featured attraction for Tuesday August 26, Iory Day.

Jose A. Castillo 25 wife Crustia Shepherd Michigan promoted to specialist on July 25 in Korea while serving with the 7th Infantry Division. Castillo lineman in Company C 127th Signal Battalion entered Army November 1961 and arrived overseas last February. Son of Lupie Castillo Mount Pleasant his 1956 Mount Pleasant High School graduate former Collins Locker Plant employee.
George Andrews of Winn is the Republican candidate for Isabella County Sheriff. A former deputy with eight years’ experience, he trained across state sheriff divisions and led the department in Craven’s absence. Born August 23, 1911 in Gratiot County, he and his wife Wilma live in Winn with son Don.
Stuart Strait named Admissions Counselor at Alma College by President Dr. Robert D. Swanson. A 1962 Alma graduate with a master’s in guidance from Michigan State University, Strait previously served as Head Resident of Mitchell Hall and graduate adviser in Emmer Hall. He will counsel high school students, collaborate with the Alumni Association in Michigan, and support development contacts.
Band Director Claude Lemmer announces Shepherd Band Camp from Monday to Friday August 17 2 at Shepherd High School. All members meet at 8 30 AM with instruments ready in the band room for instrumental instruction marching drills and 1964 fall pregame preparations, ending at noon.
Dr. E J Brenner of the Central Michigan District Health Department commended partners in Isabella County for the X-ray and diabetes detection program. City Manager W L Collins was singled out for facility access, while women's groups aided patient registration. Consumer Power provided free services, and WCEN plus Daily Times News and Shepherd Argus publicized the effort. Final totals: 2 805 X rays and 2 530 blood tests were completed.
