Lions Club To Hold Light Bulb Sale in Shafter
The Shafter Lions Club will sell 950 door to door light bulb packages on October 21. Each package of eight bulbs costs 2 dollars, aiming for five percent savings over retail. Proceeds support the Sight Conservation project including eye exams and glasses for low income families.

Mr and Mrs Irvin E Fike joined about 600 West Coast dealers in Las Vegas to view the new 1960 Chrysler cars. They left Saturday and stayed until Monday noon September 21 with planned luncheons and activities for their enjoyment.

Shafter Places Second in County Fair Exhibit Judging
Shafter's Chamber of Commerce exhibit at Kern County Fair earned second place in community exhibits of 200 square feet or more. Infant son of Sam O Briens services held
Services were held at the Pentecostal Church of God on September 29 for Thomas Arthur Jones who died September 24 at age 66. Born in Clarksville Arkansas May 10 1893 he lived at 18842 Beech Avenue and farmed fifty years in Kern County. Interment was in Shafter Cemetery. Survivors include six Jones children and twelve grandchildren.
Water Council backs Kern for 1960 NRA convention in Bakersfield
The California Water Council pledged full support to Kern County for hosting the 1960 National Reclamation Association convention in Bakersfield. Meeting led by Milton Kidd unanimously backed Kern County with the Kern County Board of Trade inviting the NRA event. The council also urged Congress to amend the Internal Revenue Law to allow deductibility of water district assessments from income tax.
