Shafter Queen to Attend Kiwanis Breakfast and Horse Show
Janet Luker, Miss Shafter 1959 60 and alternate Miss Kern County, will attend the Kiwanis Football Kickoff Pancake Breakfast at Veterans Memorial Hall on Saturday September 26 from 7 to 10 a m. She will draw door prizes during the event. The Kern County Fair Horse Show runs Sept 29 Oct 4 featuring California Saddle Horse Futurity colts with classes for weanlings through two year olds and a state wide interest expected in the San Joaquin Valley. Tickets require donor name and address. organizers list Kiwanis volunteers and coordinators for the breakfast and horse show events.

Three Chino escapees captured by Shafter police and deputies
Three escaped convicts from Chino were captured in the Shafter area Sunday night and Monday morning after a stolen car linked them to the route toward the valley. The trio, William Parker 20, James Reynolds, and Robert Disbrow, were serving burglary and forgery sentences and had escaped from Chino honor farm last Wednesday.

Car Thefts Keep Police Busy in Shafter
Four juveniles ages 14 to 17 from Shafter and area began a joy ride in a 1958 Ford driven by Jim Wilson of 30740 Shafter. The keys left in ignition sparked five car thefts between Sept 16 and 19 and two failed attempts, with one engine damaged. Parents were notified.

Tragic Accident Claims 18 Month Old Boy in Wasco
A two car crash at Magnolia and Kimberlina claimed the life of Timothy Jordan age 18 months. The Jordan family of Sacramento were en route to Los Angeles when the accident occurred. Timothy and his brother Jimmy were injured along with Mrs. Jordan and Mr. Jordan who sustained serious injuries. A. T. Atchison of rural Shafter was unhurt in his vehicle but hospitalized with multiple injuries. Funeral services for Timothy were held in Sacramento.
