Shafter Surpasses Third War Loan Quota Early
Shafter residents surged past the Third War Loan quota with 276 002.25 in bonds and stamps, led by a Johnson and Earl Weil sales team and over 150 volunteers. School children and the high school sold more than 12 000 in bonds while Civilian Defense workers aided the push, making Shafter the first Kern community to go over the top despite a high per capita target.

A flood of farm workers registered at the 101 Central avenue Farm Labor office in Shafter but few farmers have filed labor needs.
