Youthful Burglars Nabbed After Bakersfield Dinner Break-In
Bakersfield police in a prowl car caught three black youths Joe Brown 17 Jes Cato 14 and Christ Walker 17 all of Bakersfield as they attempted to burglarize a Safeway store Tuesday night. They confessed to burglarizing three Shafter stores on August 19 and 35 additional burglaries in Bakersfield over two years. Chief John Reily of Shafter joins Bakersfield police and the county sheriff in the case. Schirmer's Duehren's Hardware and Stringham's Drug stores in Shafter reported 80 percent merchandise recovery but no cash recovered.

Staff Sergeant Billie Lachenmaier recently returned from New Guinea and Australia to Wichita Texas where he enters the Army Air Forces. His brother Ralph traveled to San Francisco to greet him. Billie may secure a leave to visit his parents Mr and Mrs John Lachenmaier and friends. He chose the Air Corps over officer's training in the engineers and was an experienced civilian pilot.

Night Mail Despatch To Resume With Night Clerk
Shafter post office will resume night despatch once a night clerk and gasoline arrangements are made. Mrs Lois Rosenstiel, postmaster, told the Shafter Business Men's Association that a conference followed the service’s suspension. The group praised her cooperation and noted the service speeds up local business deliveries by about a day. An investigation was ordered into a proposed building sale. The association directors signed and completed the civic center lease with the city of Shafter.

The Shafter Ministerial Association plans religious instruction for 4th to 6th graders from Richland and Maple schools with parental consent, releasing students from class once weekly for an hour. Elmer Wiebe Family Mourns Sudden Death in California
Mr and Mrs B D Wiebe learned their son Elmer was instantly killed by grinding corn in Dinuba California. The Wiebes rushed to the scene and are expected back today. Funeral arrangements have not been announced. Elmer Wiebe was well known in this community having lived here most of his life.

Shafter Farm Labor Office Opens Under Joe Hunt
A Shafter branch of the Farm Labor employment office will open under the direction of Joe Hunt who has run the Wasco office. Irene Mettler will be secretary. Keith Hickman announced the plan and urged farmers to register labor needs now as cotton picking season approaches. The office was sought by the Shafter Business Men's Association led by Phil Ohanneson.
