East High Blades defeated Shafter Generals 34 to 7 at Memorial Stadium. Dan Ballard scored Shafter's opening touchdown. East answered with a 64 yard drive and later two interceptions led to scores by Duran and Halliwell. Injuries to Pat Torigiani and Tyrone Henderson noted. East improves to 1-0. Shafter heads to Highland next.

Reservations for Kern County Parks and Recreation facilities for 1980 may be made from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 19 1979 announced by Frank L Stramler director of parks and recreation. Applications available at Recreation Field Office 3807 Chester Avenue and by telephone September 20 1979 at 1110 Golden State Avenue 861-2345. First come first served basis to ensure equity. Areas include Kern River Golf Course Picnic Area Hart Memorial Park Camp Condor Camp Yenus Hante and Camp Tehachapi. Organizations limited to one reservation until after January 1 1980. only one reservation per period on September 19 1979.

Orientation Day at Shafter High School Sets Tone for Year
On September 13 1979 Shafter High marked Orientation Day for all four classes in the auditorium. Freshmen heard from Principal Evan Jones counselor Charles Rekosh and deans Terry Cummins and John Gibson about dress code conduct and attendance while meeting the 1979 80 Executive Board and Student Body President Wayne Wong. Sophomores Juniors and Seniors received welcome back and policy refreshers with goal setting and spirit boosters. Instructional aides are sought for special education programs in Shafter Wasco and Delano under Kern County superintendent Dr Claude W Richardson.
